Buttercups Preschool Dallington, Christchurch

Last week, some of our older tamariki went for an exciting excursion to a retirement village close to Buttercups Preschool Dallington, Christchurch, sharing their aroha within their community. The children sung some waiata for their new friends and passed out cards that the children had made for the residents. What a special moment, of ako | learning from one another, sharing conversation and joy! We will certainly be returning for another visit! :)

Ngā tamariki had a fun filled day today, with lots of imaginative play both indoors and outdoors!

Thank you to Christchurch City Libraries for inviting us to a Christmas group time today! A group of tamariki enjoyed the excursion, walking together, holding hands safely with their kaiako and each other. Once at the Shirley Library, the children enjoyed singing Christmas songs, reading a Christmas book and then popping bubbles together! What a wonderful way to enjoy the amazing things our community offers! 🎅

Recently, we have been learning about where paua come from, how they are measured, and extending on this by exploring paua in water outside! Nga tamariki also learned about how paua got a special gift from Tangaroa, reading the book, ‘Tangaroa’s Gift’ together. 🩵
Exploration outside…it’s one of our favourite pastimes! Looking forward to more! ☀️🌳

As we investigate our local curriculum together, we collaborate and draw on knowledge from others. Tamariki enjoyed a new story resource today, which shares the story of our very own Awa (River), the Avon, which makes it way down to the Moana (Ocean) here in Christchurch.

It is ̄ori week! The theme for Te Wiki 2024 is ‘Ake ake ake - A Forever Language’. This week we are enjoying some new waiata, a pukapuka or two and, as always, proudly sharing our knowledge of our language!

Te tākaro ki te wai | Water play
Did you know that water play is one of our favourite activities at Buttercups Preschool Dallington,? Water play allows tamariki opportunities to explore scientific and mathematical concepts, build communication skills, along with the development of fine and gross motor skills. Tamariki learn with and alongside others when using the tuff tray outside for different experiences, such as this setup today, which even involved bubbles!
What fun! 💦

Today in the preschool rūmā we were busy exploring paint and colours! We also enjoyed some puddles outside and having a kōrero about where the rain comes from! 🌧️
