St Albans Playcentre Philosophy Statement
Whānau tupu Ngātahi- families growing together. Our philosophy is based on the tikanga (values and beliefs) of our community and is linked to the principles, strands and goals of Te Whāriki (Early Childhood Curriculum of Aotearoa New Zealand). Whānaugatanga is at the heart of our philosophy, as we believe that our tamariki learn and develop best when there is connection, respect and meaningful relationships present in the Playcentre community. Members are encouraged and given opportunities to share in kaitiakitanga; the caring for, running, maintaining and day to day shaping of our centre and its people. New families are warmly welcomed and invited to be an active part of our community. We acknowledge, respect and value the perspectives of our members and their whānau as we contribute to building an environment that is inclusive, fair, supportive, empowering and follows the spirit of partnership committed to in Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Our Playcentre prioritises learning through child-led play, with kaiko and whānau input creating a fun and inspiring environment for our community of learners. We value a connection to nature and offer opportunities to experience and learn about the natural world and our place in it. Our curriculum is enriched by the sharing of prior learning experiences and significant events within our Playcentre family. Tamariki and their whānau know that their experiences are valued and feel able to contribute to our curriculum.
