Osu to all,

Well, what a year! It is wonderful to look back and observe how the JKS Karate throughout New Zealand stayed connected, supported the community and families and made us stronger - This is the JKS Karate family.

Let us look back! In lock down, we provided a daily purpose with 2 x Zoom class per day, every day except Sunday. Every session was open to all student, families and international connections – free!

Not just Karate-ka, but also sessions on stretching, core work, balancing to bring in the family member but of course always the bonus of a kick and punch here and there!

Following lifting of some restriction, the JKS opened additional community dojos to again provide a broader reach, daily focus and get people active, and what a success this has been. We saw a wave of positivity not just in the community doing something new, but also stronger connection with the whole family.

At the same time, we introduced International Zoom lessons with JKS Japan, and wow, we had to buy a bigger Zoom license to carter for nearly 200 international connections each Saturday.

Further restrictions lifted and JKS NZ immediately provided heavily sponsored 2020 National Championships held in Christchurch which attracted over 65 participants. Thank goodness Auckland dropped to an acceptable level 2 days prior!

Since this September event, we have also provided further Zoom classes, participated in an International Seminar with JKS Japan, undertaken Kyu and Dan grade examinations and just this last two weeks, undertook Instructor and Examiner qualification test for 2nd degree black belts!

The commitment by all the Dojo head Senior instructors namely: Cooper Sensei, Phil Sensei, Sean Sensei, Masa Sensei, Hisako Sensei, Anton Sensei and Emil Sensei – was non less than 101% so we could continue to support our Karate members with research, training and time.

Furthermore, we have been blessed with financial support and contributions from individuals (you know who you are!) without which we could not have made the aforementioned possible, along with offering free training and making it as affordable as possible for all to attend the championships – the idea was so no-one missed out!

A big thank from everyone in the JKS family to you, our kind sponsors. We thank you sincerely.

Looking toward 2021, the JKS NZ leadership team will continue to seek way to support exposure, opportunity and encourage participation for all the community and their families with the concept of traditional Karate-do, inclusiveness, for everyone and the moto of Karate for Life.

To you all, whether student or instructors, I honour you and thank you

Osu
