🌱 Growing, Learning, and Connecting 🌱
Anita from Growing Kiwi Gardeners visited our preschool this week and shared the beautiful story 'A Peaceful Place', encouraging us to think about nature, caring for our environment, and the special places that help us feel calm and connected.
After the story, our tamariki got their hands dirty planting broccoli, spinach, and pea seedlings. They carefully dug holes, planted their seedlings, and gently watered them, learning how plants grow and what they need to thrive.
These hands-on experiences support the aspirations of Te Whāriki, fostering children's curiosity, confidence, and connection with the natural world. As tamariki continue to care for their gardens, they are developing a sense of responsibility, learning about sustainability, and discovering where healthy food comes from.
We can't wait to watch our vegetables grow! 🌿🥦🌱

Kaiapoi Infant Room
🌾✨ Exploring together through sensory play ✨🌾
Our Infant Room tamariki have been enjoying the freedom to explore a trough filled with wheat in their own unique ways. While some chose to scoop, pour, and run the wheat through their fingers, others decided the best place to investigate was inside the trough together!
This open-ended experience encouraged rich sensory exploration while supporting fine motor development as little hands grasped, scooped, and explored. Even more special were the moments of connection, as tamariki climbed in together, shared the space, observed one another, and discovered alongside their peers.
By following the children's lead and giving them the freedom to explore in ways that felt meaningful to them, kaiako created an experience filled with curiosity, collaboration, and joyful learning.

Kaiapoi Preschool Room
Frosty mornings have been making way for beautiful winter sunshine, and our Preschool Room tamariki have been making the most of it! ❄️☀️
As the day warms up, our outdoor environment comes alive with exploration, imagination, and teamwork. Whether they're creating together, solving problems, or discovering something new, tamariki are building confidence, strengthening friendships, and learning through shared experiences.
There is something special about a crisp winter's day spent outdoors, where every adventure brings new opportunities to explore, connect, and grow.

🌿✨ Creating calm spaces for our youngest pēpi ✨🌿
In our Infant Room, we thoughtfully create safe and inviting sensory spaces where our youngest pēpi can explore at their own pace. Soft textures, natural materials, and open-ended resources encourage curiosity while providing a calm environment to discover the world around them.
These intentional spaces support early sensory development, build confidence through exploration, and give our pēpi the freedom to learn in a way that feels safe and secure.
Sometimes the simplest experiences create the richest learning. 💚

From our Portobelo Avonhead preschool...
What a fantastic Friday Funday Bike Day we have had today! 🚲☀️
There were smiles, laughter, and plenty of excitement as our tamariki zoomed around, building their confidence, balance, and coordinatio
n while having so much fun with their friends.
It was wonderful to see everyone encouraging one another, taking turns, and celebrating each other's achievements. Days like these remind us that learning through play creates the best memories. 💛
Thank you to all our whānau for bringing along bikes, scooters and helmets and helping make today such a special day. We can't wait for the next one!

Portobelo Kaiapoi and Avonhead
🚑❤️ Learning with our local community! ❤️🚑
This week our older tamariki at both our Kaiapoi and Avonhead centres had a fantastic visit from St John in Schools, who shared an interactive session all about emergency awareness.
Together, we learned about the different emergency services and the important roles they play in keeping our communities safe. Our tamariki loved exploring some of the clothing and equipment used by ambulance officers, practising their bandaging skills, and listening to a story to finish the session. 🩹📖
At Portobelo, we love creating opportunities for our tamariki to engage with people in our local community and learn about the important roles they play. These real-life experiences help build confidence, curiosity, and an understanding of the wider world around them. 💛
A big thank you to St John in Schools for taking the time to share this fun and engaging learning experience with us. We all had an awesome time! 👏
