This morning at Parliament, alongside our tamariki, we proudly launched our “Platform for Change 2026.”

Driven by our members across early childhood, primary, and support staff, we are demanding five election priorities:
• Funding a teacher aide in every class
• Investing in quality early childhood education
• Valuing educators better
• Upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the curriculum and wider education system
• Creating an independent Curriculum and Assessment Council

For too long, our education system has been treated like a political football, leaving educators blindsided, stressed, and facing constant curriculum changes.

We are calling on all political parties to support the NZEI Te Riu Roa “Platform for Change” – ensuring the stable policy and funding our tamariki and teachers deserve to thrive.

Passionate about the future of education and want to know where political parties stand? Join our Christchurch branch on 13 August (7:00pm – 9:00pm) at Ngā Hau e Whā National Marae for a MP Forum featuring representatives from Labour, National, and the Green Party.

We’ll be tackling key issues, including the importance of quality education, pay equity, learning support, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and teacher workload. Don’t miss the debate – register today!

We are excited to have the following MPs attending our forum.

Jan Tinetti – Labour
Matt Doocey – National
Ethan Gullery – Alliance
Jesse Luke – Alliance

We are confident that we will also have a candidate from the Green Party and are awaiting communication on who that will be. Act have tendered their apologies, and other parties have yet to respond.

In addition to these attendees, we are also excited to have Lianne Dalziel joining us to co-host this very important event.
