Believed to be our oldest living 1st XV player, Rupert Iles (5209) proudly represented Christ’s College in 1947 as a No. 8. During his time at College, Rupert was also a member of the Shooting Team, served as a Prefect, and belonged to Julius House.
Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Rupert back to College, where he generously shared a collection of treasured photographs, programmes, articles, and stories from his time here.
In the photographs, Rupert can be seen as the third boy walking onto the field and as the tall player wearing headgear in the centre of the action shot.
Thank you, Rupert, for helping preserve this important part of our College history.
It was a privilege to hear your stories and celebrate your connection to Christ’s College nearly 80 years on.

A wonderful few days at the 100th Quadrangular Tournament hosted by Wanganui Collegiate School.
For many Old Boys, the memories of Quad are never about the result. They can still tell you who they played, the score, and what the weather was like on the day. More than anything, it represents the very best of schoolboy rugby and lifelong friendships.
Wanganui Collegiate has done a magnificent job hosting this special centenary event. The grounds looked outstanding, and the Gala Dinner last night was a fantastic celebration of 100 years of Quad history and tradition.
Best of luck to our First XV as they take on Wanganui Collegiate. We will be cheering you on from the sidelines. 🏉

Last night, we were delighted to welcome Old Boys from across the generations to Foxglove on Wellington’s waterfront for a wonderful evening of connection, conversation, and camaraderie.
It was fantastic to see such a diverse group in attendance, from those recently out of school to some of our most senior Old Boys. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening such a success.
If you’d like to reconnect with fellow Christ’s College Old Boys, we’d love to see you at the Wellington Long Lunch on 31 July.

We were honoured to welcome the Rt. Hon. Matthew Wale, Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, (Old Boy 10647), back to Christ's College this week.
He was warmly welcomed by Schola Cantorum and joined by two of his 1st XV rugby teammates from 1987, making the occasion even more special.
During his visit, Prime Minister Wale met with students and staff and enjoyed a tour of the school, including visits to the Museum and Upper West.
Guests enjoyed a wonderful lunch, with thanks to the team at Ovation, who showcased the very best of Canterbury produce in a beautifully curated menu. The visit concluded with an emotional performance of the College haka by our 1st XV, providing a fitting and memorable end to the day.
It was a privilege to host Prime Minister Wale and his delegation, and to celebrate his enduring connection with Christ's College.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this visit such a memorable occasion.

Old Boy Mark Hadlow Returns to the College Stage – Don’t Miss It
We’re delighted to welcome Old Boy actor-director Mark Hadlow back to Christ’s College for two very special events—and we encourage you to come along to both for the full experience.
First, enjoy a screening of his award-winning play MAMIL (Middle-Aged Man in Lycra)—a brilliantly observed and often hilarious look at life, identity, and the modern midlife crisis. This will be followed by a Q&A with Mark, offering a rare insight into his creative process and career.
Then, return for the live performance of GOMIL (Grumpy Old Man in Lycra)—a sharp, witty, and deeply entertaining follow-up, performed live on stage. Again, Mark will stay on for a Q&A, making this a fantastic opportunity to engage directly with one of New Zealand’s most accomplished performers.
Whether you’re a theatre lover, an Old Boy, or simply looking for a memorable night out, these events promise to be insightful, funny, and uniquely special.

From driving forklifts to becoming a Customer Manager for leading transport company Bascik, Old Boy Charlie Dyer’s career in supply chain management continues to evolve. A member of Flower’s House, Charlie has returned to Christ’s College to share his journey with students at a Career Convos session, telling the boys to value their school connections throughout their lives. Whether undertaking a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Supply Chain Management at Lincoln University or heading straight into a career and working your way up the ranks, Charlie urges students to consider all options. Charlie also points out that networking and making a positive impression on everyone you meet are core to success in his industry, adding that those College contacts and the foundation of learning have prepared him well.

Congratulations to Old Boy Sam Johnson on being appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours. He has been recognised for his outstanding service to the community and youth.
As the founder of the Student Volunteer Army, he inspired thousands of young people to support Christchurch following the earthquakes. Today, that service-focused movement continues to make a difference across New Zealand and beyond.
The honour is fitting recognition of Sam’s vision, leadership, and commitment to helping others.
Congratulations, Sam, on this well-deserved achievement. We are incredibly proud of all you have accomplished.
