Important Update: Introducing ‘Red Days’

With the current weather conditions, we recommend that students bring their raincoats and, if possible, gumboots tomorrow — and of course, their best indoor behaviour too!

To avoid the worst of the surface flooding, please use the AstroTurf or Junior School entrance when arriving at school.

Introducing ‘Red Days’

With more weather events like this expected throughout 2025, we are introducing a new system to help us better manage these days moving forward — Red Days.

Red Days are being introduced to support our school community during periods of poor weather and increased traffic.

A Red Day will be declared when the following conditions are present:

- Surface flooding on the school grounds
- Gumboots are required for students
- Increased traffic is expected in the school car park

If we are aware of potential Orange or Red weather warnings, we will aim to make the Red Day decision by 12:30pm, giving parents and caregivers time to plan — no need to panic or rush.

On Red Days, parents and caregivers will have the option to collect students early to help ease congestion:

- From 2:30pm: Students can be collected directly from their classrooms
- From 2:50pm to 3:15pm: Students will be available for pick-up from the school hall

This flexible window allows for a smoother, safer end to the school day.

Red Day notices will be shared via HERO and our Christ the King page.

Given the current state of emergency in Christchurch, we will be putting our new Red Day system in place tomorrow, Friday 2nd May.

Thank you for your continued support, patience, and positivity — stay safe and stay dry!

Wet Weather and Carpark Information:

With the current weather conditions, we recommend that students bring their raincoats and, if possible, gumboots today and tomorrow, and of course, bring along their best indoor behaviour too.

There is surface flooding in several areas of the school, including outside Rooms 1, 2, and 3, near the junior playground, and on the astro turf. Please avoid walking across the grass to access classrooms.

Our four school pumps and drainage systems were cleaned and flushed over the holidays and are working well. However, with the amount of rain we’ve had, it takes time to pump the water out to the road.

Just a short break in the rain allows them to catch up.

Carpark Reminder:

Thank you for all the positive feedback about the new carpark layout, overall, it’s working extremely well. Yesterday was a challenge with the wet weather and an event in the parish carpark, which made parking limited.

On wet days, please think of our carpark like Riccarton Mall on a public holiday — take the first park you can find!

Avoid trying to park right at the school gate. We’ve directed traffic to turn left to help avoid bottlenecks at pick-up and drop-off for this very reason.

Remember, we are one of the very few schools that still provides a carpark for families — thank you for helping us keep it running smoothly!

Stay dry, stay safe, and thanks again for your support, patience, and positivity.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis, who passed away at 7.35am Rome time today on Monday, 21 April 2025.
Mass will be offered at 12.05 pm at St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral on Friday.
A source of inspiration through his compassion, humility, and faith. Pope Francis touched the lives of millions with his message of love, mercy, and hope.

"God's love calls us to move beyond fear. We ask God for the courage to put on faith, hope and love as we go out into the world and become the word in body as well as spirit."

Pope Francis will be remembered not only for his teachings but also for his tireless efforts to bridge divides between people of all backgrounds.

"Let us pray for peace: peace in the world and in each of our hearts."

As we mourn his passing, let us take time to pray:

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
Amen

🌿✨Stations of the Cross 2025✨🌿

During Holy Week, Catholics reflect on the powerful journey leading to Jesus' death. This week is marked by five significant days, starting with Palm Sunday 🌿.

Holy Week in 3 Minutes ➡️ https://youtu.be/qdrPhxqRP9I

Today, all our students took part in the Stations of the Cross 🙌. This sacred tradition commemorates Jesus' final day on Earth 🌍💔.

For this mini-pilgrimage, students acted out the Stations of the Cross in freeze frames 🎬, each recalling a powerful moment from Christ's journey.

A moving and reflective experience for all ✝️💫.

A Beautiful Day of Run, Jump, Throw 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🤸‍♂️🤸‍♀️

What an amazing day we had today! The weather was perfect 🌞, and our Junior Team students showcased their newly learned skills in the Run, Jump, Throw event. It was truly heartwarming to see the confidence, joy, and cooperation among all the students as they participated in each event 🙌🎉.

A huge thank you to all the parents and caregivers who joined us to cheer on the students 👏👏 and helped make this event such a success. Your support and presence made the day even more special, and we hope you enjoyed the day.❤️.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Junior Team teachers 🍎✏️ for their dedication in preparing the students and ensuring everything ran smoothly, we’re so grateful for all that you do 🙏💪.

We couldn’t be prouder of how much the students have grown in these essential athletic skills 🏅, and we look forward to more opportunities to celebrate their learning and progress in the future 🌟.

Thanks again to everyone who helped make today unforgettable! 🌈💖

ANZAC Presentation

On Friday 4th April, Jeff Cotton visited and gave a fabulous ANZAC presentation to our Year 6 - 8 students.

He spoke about the life of a soldier during World War I and World War II 🪖, sharing powerful stories—including that of his grandfather, who was badly wounded in the First World War. Jeff also shared many other moving accounts of New Zealanders at war 🇳🇿.

He presented a PowerPoint 💻 showing what the battlefields look like today and explained what took place in those locations, with a particular focus on New Zealand’s involvement.

To bring history to life, Jeff also brought along original memorabilia 🏅 including medals, shrapnel, helmets, jackets, and uniforms.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the presentation 😊 and came away with a deeper understanding of war—and why it's so important that history is remembered, and never repeated 🕊️.

A huge thank you to Mr McInnes for organising this opportunity for our students! 🙌
