Music is a big part of life at Cobham, with opportunities for students at every level from beginners just starting out to experienced performers.
Our Year 7 students can get involved in:
Chorale (auditioned; higher level vocal group)
Choir (auditioned; next level down)
Orchestra (auditioned; most students have learned for two years or more)
Chamber Orchestra (invitation only for our highest level orchestra musicians
Rock Band (led this year by dedicated parent volunteers)
Itinerant lessons across a range of instruments, including voice and electronic music
Our music programme supports students to grow their skills,, express themselves, and be part of something special, with performances and events throughout the year.

Our Chamber Orchestra had a big day yesterday, joining Christchurch Girls’ High School for a combined orchestra event with students from several primary and intermediate schools.

After a full day of rehearsals and collaboration, the musicians came together again for an evening concert, a brilliant showcase of teamwork, talent, and the joy of making music alongside others.

A huge well done to our Cobham students for representing the school so beautifully.

What to expect in Year 7
Starting intermediate is a big step, and at Cobham, Year 7 is all about settling in, building confidence, and discovering new opportunites.

Here is what Year 7 students can look forward to:
A supportive transition that helps students feel at home from day one.

Strong classroom routines and clear expectations.l
Opportunities to try new activities, join clubs, and get involved.

A culture built on respect, belonging, and positive relationships.

Teachers who guide, encourage, and challenge students to grow.

Year 7 is a year of new friendships, new experiences, and finding out what you’re capable of, and we’re proud to support every student through that journey.
