Te wiki o te reo Māori - Day rima

We ended this week with a game of ‘kei a wai’ (a te reo Māori bingo game), learning the song ‘kina, Kina’, revisiting some of our waiata from earlier this week and reading books.
The nursery Tamariki enjoyed listening to some waiata, making book marks, looking at native birds of Aōtearoa, and painting/decorating the Māori word for Abacus which is takatātai.

We have had a great week learning some more te reo Māori and practicing what we know. We will continue to provide these experiences for Tamariki moving forward.

Kia kaha, kia māia, kia manawanui - be strong, be brave, be steadfast.

Te wiki o te reo Māori - days toru and whā

The last two days, we have spent time practicing the New Zealand|Aōtearoa national anthem. Nursery Tamariki have been making bookmarks and kaiako have been working hard to use some new phrases and words with Tamariki across the centre. We have been learning about papatūānuku and what she can provide for us through gardens and nature. Tamariki spent some time looking at the plants we have in our gardens and looking after them. We have also been continuing to practice our waita and doing some kapa haka during music and movement.

“Poipoia te kākano kia puawai” - nurture the seed and it will grow

Te wiki o te reo Māori - Day rua

Today Tamariki in the preschool enjoyed more waiata and using rākau to make a beat in time with music. We also did some rainbow art, learning the colours of a rainbow in te reo Māori, also making our own ‘unique’ representation of pounamu.

Nursery Tamariki made some putiputi|flowers and also listened to some waiata.

‘Mā te kimi ka kite, mā te kite ka mōhio, mā te mōhio ka mārama’ - seek and discover, discover and know, know and become enlightened

Tamariki enjoyed looking at poi and learning what they are used for and we listened to a range of māori waiata|songs and pukapuka|books.
Tamariki also learnt what “Me haere” means 😊

Lately in the preschool we have been focusing on the topic “Football” as there is the fifa women’s World Cup at the moment and a big interest in ball skills. Tamariki have enjoyed designing their uniforms, learning new skills and playing a range of games that encourage skills, listening, following instructions and so much more. We looked at different flags of countries that are involved in the World Cup. We have also discussed that Football is played all over the world and by a diverse range of people; men, women, children, hearing impaired, different cultures, vision impaired, in wheelchairs and much more.
Here are some photos of what some of the Tamariki have been up to. ⚽️🏆
