Tahi and Rua played a couple of good games against South Hornby School on Friday night who are strong competitors. Win or lose, it's great seeing the progress these teams are making every game. Keep working hard!

9 keen chess players from junior to senior at the Chess Competition last Friday at Avonhead School. They stayed all day and each player had seven 15 minute games with some great results.

We have a worm farm here at school. Each class is responsible for feeding the worms, once or twice a term - every six weeks.
When it's their turn the worm farmers collect the class bins, making sure all of the food has been cut up, scrunched, or blended and then feed the worms. On Friday, worm farmers from Te Kākano class prepared the food for the worms, and cleaned up afterwards. They are taking their job very seriously!

We had a great Pink Shirt Day today. Thank you to everyone for your support! Our Student Council raised $269.10 to go towards the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand. Kia kaha!

Our Student Council have been busy over the last couple of days. They have been designing and making cake toppers with positive messages ready for Pink Shirt Day (promoting the message of being inclusive, and being an upstander not a bystander) on Friday 15 May (tomorrow). Today, they have been baking up a storm and making and icing cupcakes! These will be on sale tomorrow for a $2 coin with proceeds going to the Mental Health Foundation.

Autumn really turned it on for our school cross country event yesterday! Thank you to our community for your awesome support and we were proud of all of our students who persevered and participated in the event, - those who ran with a competitive spirit and those who did the race at their own pace.
