A BLAST FROM THE PAST! As part of our 150th year, our students have been visiting Ferrymead Heritage Park to travel back in time and learn about what school life was like over 150 years ago. Children dressed up in olden day costumes, played traditional games, and experienced a lesson in the old school house with the very strict Mrs Black! Students practised handwriting using ink dip pens and slates, giving children a real feel of what school was like in the past. Our senior students also looked at how communication and technology has changed over time!

As part of our 150th year, we are learning about Māori and European history within this area.
Over this term, students have been learning Māori pūrākau which explore the creation of the Canterbury/South Island. Some stories including Aoraki and his brothers (how the Southern Alps were made), Rākaihautū (the naming of the lakes, rivers and East Coast), Papatūānuku & Ranginui, and other stories. This culminated in a learning display for our families. Children had retold stories visually via digital mediums, murals, artwork, and writing.
We had a lovely learning celebration this morning finishing with a performance by our Kapa Haka. Thanks to everyone who turned out to support and our PTA for the delicious early morning bacon butties and sausages!
