Te Wiki o te Reo Māori has started off strong at Bishopdale School Te Kura o Papakōhatu. The senior Kapa Haka group visited Golden Age Retirement Village on Monday and impressed the residents with their beautiful voices and great enthusiasm. For those of you who weren’t able to see our amazing senior Kapa Haka rōpū perform last week at Redwood School, or for those of you who did and would like to see it again… here is one of their waiata - Tahu Pōtiki. Te ātaahua hoki!

We were very proud of all of our performers as only approximately half of our group were able to attend this performance.

🧮 Maths Week at Bishopdale School! 💰

Maths Week is in full swing at Bishopdale School, and our students are loving the opportunity to earn Bishopdale Bucks for showing our CARE values while getting stuck into their maths! 💵

We’ve already heard some great discussions about whether students should spend their Bishopdale Bucks or save them for something bigger — some are definitely showing impressive financial decision-making! 😄

To add to the fun, we’ve put together a Maths Week Quiz featuring questions from each year level, based on the kinds of maths our students are learning in class. 🧠✏️

Whānau, we’d love your help! Please encourage our younger mathematicians to have a go at the questions and support them where needed. It’s a great opportunity to talk about maths together at home.

Maths Week 2026 – Learning Through Bishopdale Bucks!

Starts Next Week!

This year at Bishopdale School we are celebrating Maths Week 2026 in a fun and authentic way by bringing maths to life with our own Bishopdale Bucks classroom economy!

Throughout the week, teachers will be awarding $2 and $5 Bishopdale Bucks to students who demonstrate our CARE Values:

* Caring
* Achieving
* Responsible
* Enthusiastic

Students will then use their maths skills to make decisions about their money. Should they spend their Bishopdale Bucks straight away in the classroom shop, or save them and trade smaller notes for larger denominations and work towards bigger prizes?

This exciting activity gives students real-world opportunities to develop:

* Financial literacy
* Counting and calculating money
* Budgeting and saving
* Decision-making
* Goal setting
* Problem solving

Our classroom shops will be open at the end of each day, and on Friday any remaining prizes will be auctioned in a fun Mega Auction, where students can use their savings to bid for the final items.

Maths is everywhere, and we hope this engaging experience helps students see how the skills they learn in the classroom can be applied in everyday life while celebrating and reinforcing our Bishopdale CARE Values.

We can’t wait to share the excitement of Maths Week 2026 with our tamariki!

Reminder that it’s Red Nose Day tomorrow and we are fundraising for Cure Kids. Feel free to dress up in red or wear some red accessories, and bring along a gold coin donation for a great cause!

Our Pasefika performance group was full of energy at practice today! Notices will be sent home this week with final performance day info. Just over a week away the big day is Thursday 6th August. Tickets can be purchased from Ticketek, just go online to ticketmaster.co.nz and search Sau Ia Fest.

Congratulations to our outstanding Year 3 and 4 cross country runners who proudly represented Bishopdale School at the North West Zones Cross Country event.

Our students demonstrated determination, resilience, and excellent sportsmanship as they competed against runners from schools across the region. They gave their very best effort and represented our school with pride.

We are incredibly proud of all our runners for their hard work, positive attitude, and commitment. You have made Bishopdale School proud!

We are incredibly proud of our top Year 5 and 6 cross country runners who represented Bishopdale School at the North West Zones competition today. Each student gave their very best effort, showed determination and resilience, and competed with outstanding sportsmanship. They were excellent ambassadors for our school and made Bishopdale School proud. Well done to all our runners on their fantastic achievement!
