to live music and sunshine on Ilam campus back in the '80s ☀️🎵

Did you ever catch a gig on campus? Or can you see yourself in this crowd?

It was fantastic to catch up with our alumni and friends in Sibu, Malaysia, last night. We're also delighted to see the gathering featured in the local newspaper.

UC's connection with Malaysia spans more than 70 years, dating back to the Colombo Plan Scholarship Programme in the 1950s. It was wonderful to celebrate those longstanding ties and reconnect with our alumni community.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for dinner. We look forward to seeing our alumni and friends in Kuching and Kuala Lumpur in the coming days 🙌

Congratulations to UC alum Vui Clarence Nelson for his appointment as Samoa's new Ombudsman 👏

Justice Vui Clarence Nelson Appointed Samoa Ombudsman

Former Supreme Court Justice Vui Clarence Nelson has been appointed as Samoa’s new Ombudsman.

The appointment was announced tonight by Prime Minister Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt following the passage of the Government’s budget in Parliament.

The announcement and motion relating to the appointment were made after Parliament approved the national budget during its sitting on Thursday night.

Justice Vui Clarence Nelson recently concluded his service on the Supreme Court bench, having presided over his final sitting yesterday before officially retiring from the judiciary.

His appointment to the Ombudsman’s office comes after a distinguished legal career spanning many years in Samoa’s judicial system. Widely respected within the legal profession, Justice Nelson has been involved in numerous significant cases and has contributed to the development of Samoa’s legal landscape through his service on the bench.

As Ombudsman, Vui Clarence Nelson will assume responsibility for overseeing complaints against government agencies, promoting good governance and accountability, and carrying out the functions of Samoa’s National Human Rights Institution.
