🫟Exploring, Mixing, Cooking, & Messy Play the Koru Room 🫟

Our tamariki have been busy exploring, mixing, stirring, pouring, squishing, and creating through hands-on sensory experiences! 💧🍃🖌️🥣🥄

Pretend cooking and messy play provide so many valuable learning opportunities for our youngest learners. As children mix ingredients, explore different textures, and experiment with materials, they are developing their curiosity, creativity, and confidence. ❤️❤️❤️

Physical exploration is equally important. Crawling, reaching, balancing, carrying, and moving through their environment helps strengthen growing muscles, develop coordination, and build an understanding of how their bodies work. 🤸💪

These experiences support key areas of Te Whāriki, including:
🌱Exploration| Mana Aotūroa- developing curiosity, problem-solving, and confidence to explore.
🌱Wellbeing| Mana Atua- supporting physical development and self care skills.
🌱Belonging| Mana Whenua- creating a safe environment where children feel confident to participate and take risks in their learning.

Through everyday experiences like cooking, sensory play, and active movement, our tamariki are building important foundations for lifelong learning while having lots of fun along the way!💙🧡💚💛💜

🍽️ This week's favourite was our Chicken & Cauliflower Mac 'n' Cheese! It was such a hit with the children that there were plenty of second and even third helpings enjoyed. Seeing happy faces and empty plates is always a great sign! 😊🧀✨

Yesterday in the Kowhai Room, our tamariki enjoyed making delicious pikelets for afternoon tea! 🥞

The children were actively involved in the process, helping to measure the ingredients, mix everything together, and watch as their pikelets were prepared. Cooking experiences like these are a wonderful way to build early maths, language, and teamwork skills while having lots of fun.

The best part was enjoying the freshly made pikelets together for afternoon tea – they were a big hit, and the children were very proud of what they had created!

🌿✨ Fun Learning in the Tōtara Room at Kirwee Treehouse ✨🌿
In our vibrant Tōtara Room, every day is an adventure filled with curiosity, creativity, and laughter! 🌈 Our tamariki engage in hands-on learning experiences that spark imagination—whether it’s messy play, exploring the natural environment, building with loose parts, or diving into creative arts and storytelling. 🎨🌻
We celebrate each child’s unique interests, encouraging them to ask questions, solve problems, and discover the world around them at their own pace. From sensory exploration to collaborative play, the Tōtara Room is a place where friendships flourish and confidence grows. 💛🌱
With caring kaiako guiding and supporting each moment, our learners feel safe, inspired, and excited to try new things every day. 🌟

We had another wonderful visit from Anita yesterday morning 🪱🍂♻️

Anita and the tamariki worked together to give our worms a cosy new home ready for winter by adding food scraps, leaves, and cardboard to the worm farm. The tamariki enjoyed reading a story all about worms before getting stuck into the hands-on fun 📚✨

Did you know worms are amazing for the environment? 🪱🌱 Worms help turn food scraps into nutrient-rich compost, which helps plants grow healthy and strong. They also help keep soil healthy by making tunnels that allow air and water to move through the ground 🌿

The tamariki loved holding the worms and were fascinated learning about how important these tiny creatures are for our planet 💚

What a beautiful May that we have enjoyed in the Koru room! 🍁☀️💛We have been so lucky with the weather - chilly mornings followed by warm sunny days that have invited us outdoors for plenty of exploration and discovery. 💡💡

Our tamariki have loved challenging their growing bodies through climbing, balancing, obstacle courses, messy gloop play, mud exploration, painting, and digging in the sandpit. 🪏🪏🪏These experiences support developing confidence, coordination, problem-solving, and physical wellbeing as our youngest learners explore the world around them. 🌎🌍🌏

This month has also been filled with meaningful moments of connection. 🫶 We have noticed tamariki beginning to play alongside one another, sharing interests, observing their peers, and building early social relationships through play. These special moments help children learn what it means to belong, communicate, and learn together within our environment. 👶👧🧑👶

Through responsive, play-based experiences, we continue to support the aspirations of Te Whāriki- empowering children to become “competent and confident learners and communicators”.
