Fairleigh Kindergarten - Garden Road Since 1929 Community Based • Not For Profit Kindergarten in the heart of Merivale since 1929. Fairleigh began in 1915 on the veranda of a house in Rossall Street.

It was then run as a preparatory school in Holmwood Road for five years and moved to its current site in Garden Road in 1929. A group of parents took over the lease in 1947 and the Fairleigh Preschool and community centre was formed. In 1950, a decision was made by the parents to purchase the property at 27A Garden Road, and an incorporated society was formed to own and administer the kindergarten. This is how it is still run today. The members of the society are the parents of the children currently attending Fairleigh. A parent board is elected annually as the governance body of the kindergarten. The kindergarten remains not for profit and is registered with the Charities Commission.

A huge thank you to those who were able to join us at our working bee today! 🐝

Our new fence was put up by an impressive team of volunteers yesterday, which meant we were able to get all our new sand & bark installed today.

Special thanks Harry & John for their building, to Kaiapoi ITM for their timber donation and Gardenbox for their delivery of bark & sand.

Ngā Tamariki have been having a go at learning the NZ Sign language alphabet for New Zealand Sign Language week. They also had a go at signing out the letters that make up their names. It was great to see their engagement and enthusiasm for this experience, learning about what it means to be hearing impaired and how important sign language is to communicate with those around them.
