Lovely to hear from these two - Lydia-Mae Wilson and Jasmin Smith - who happened to end up teaching at the same school in Britain!

Congratulations to Chloe (S57), a newly crowned world champion in our midst. All the way on the other side of the world in Prague Chloe has been dominating - taking out the top place in the world for Hip Hop. Amazing results!

Happy Diwali! A brief pause in the busyness of Centreblock to share and celebrate the festival of lights. Thanks, Rajini for organising this shared lunch. Nourishing our minds before attending the afternoon seminars and academics.

Interns doing wellbeing walks today - around the block, running, skipping, walking backwards. Anything to escape writing those portfolios!

A kingly debut at The Court Theatre 22/09/2025

We're excited to see that recent grad Jason Hodzelmans (P52 ) is taking the lead role in the Court Theatre's current production The King's Speech. In the article below, Jason links his role as a teacher to understanding the challenges faced by the young King George VI. Be sure to check it out!

A kingly debut at The Court Theatre A respected Kiwi performer, who came back to Christchurch after the Covid pandemic and retrained as a teacher, is returning to the stage for his Court Theatre debut.

On Monday, 18th August, we celebrated a significant milestone - the graduates of 2024/2025 received their Postgraduate Diplomas in Teaching.

From the moment of putting on the gown and trencher to the proud procession down to Tūranga, every step taken reflected the perseverance and dedication it takes to become a teacher.

Farheen (P56) spoke on behalf of all graduates, sharing a heartfelt and humorous account of Grad School Life, the juggling act of teacher training and life commitments and the strength it took to reach this milestone moment.

The occasion marked more than the end of training; it was a celebration of dedication, devotion and skill each graduate carries into the craft and future of teaching.

An interesting U-turn regarding MLEs in the last week from the Government. We all know Kevin's opinion - here's a link to an article he wrote . . . in 2016:

A new term and a new intake of keen interns who are ready to enter the rewarding profession we know and love (most of the time!).

We were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Andrew Withington over the weekend. Andrew was a member of P10 and was on staff at NZGSE for a period of time. Teacher, musician and friend to many, his passing is being felt throughout the motu and further afield. His contribution within choral music has been considerable and he has influenced many young people to take up careers in music. NZGSE staff who were in contact with Andrew these past few months were impressed by his optimism, deep faith and interest in others despite his circumstances. Our love and thoughts go to his family and close friends. He will be deeply missed.

A milestone moment to share with you all. The final pink slip for Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary) was handed over this afternoon by Kevin himself. One happy intern receiving her well deserved pink slip after returning from having her daughter, Chloe. Well done, Regina!
