Congratulations to Dr Philip Morreau FRACS (OC 1979) on his recent appointment as President of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, the peak professional body representing surgeons across Australia and New Zealand.

A distinguished Auckland-based paediatric surgeon, Phil has long been recognised for his commitment to surgical education, professional standards, and leadership within the profession. His election to this prestigious role reflects a distinguished career and many years of service to the College.

Remembering Greg King (OC 1987)

We were saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Greg King (OC 1987), who lost his life this week while supporting wildfire suppression efforts in California's Yosemite National Park.

A highly respected helicopter pilot, Greg dedicated his career to helping others, flying dangerous firefighting missions in some of the world's most challenging conditions. He was supporting efforts to combat the Dome Fire when he made the ultimate sacrifice in service of protecting communities and those on the front line.

Originally from Pleasant Point, Greg built an outstanding reputation throughout the aviation industry for his professionalism, skill, and calm leadership. He was admired not only as an exceptional pilot, but also as a valued colleague, mentor, and friend. Before relocating to the US in 2009, Greg worked at Aoraki Mt Cook for The Helicopter Line for about four years.

Greg's courage, commitment, and selflessness exemplified a life of service. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, fellow aviators, and all those mourning his loss across New Zealand, Alaska, and the United States.

Rest in peace, Greg. Thank you for a life of courage, service, and dedication to others. Blue skies and fair winds. 💙🤍

What a fantastic night at our OCA Annual Dinner on Friday!

More than 140 Old Collegians and guests came together to celebrate the achievements, service and contributions of members of our Old Collegians community.

Congratulations to our award recipients:
🏆 Ben Taylor (OC 2017), recipient of the L.G. Maginness Memorial Cup for Sports Personality of the Year
🥁 Lance Rairi (OC 1988), recipient of the Cockram Cultural Award for Excellence and Service to Culture
👏 Mark Stewart (OC 1980), recipient of The Alister Newton Cup for Service

Guests were inspired by stories of resilience, dedication, leadership and service, while also enjoying the opportunity to reconnect with friends old and new.

One of the highlights of the evening was seeing so many Old Collegians embrace the uniform theme, dusting off old blazers, ties and rugby caps and sharing memories from decades gone by.

A wonderful celebration of the friendships, shared experiences and lifelong connections that continue long after leaving St Andrew's. 🤍💙

Congratulations to our Old Collegians who have achieved the prestigious Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award. 👏

St Andrew’s College was honoured to host the National Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award ceremony recently, where 90 young people from across New Zealand received their Gold Award.

Alongside our current students, we also celebrated three recent Old Collegians among the recipients: Madie Wallace (OC 2025), Grace Kempthorne (OC 2024), and Jayden Okeroa (OC 2024).

The Gold Award is the highest level of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award programme and recognises commitment, perseverance, leadership, service, and adventure. Achieving it is no small feat, and these Old Collegians have demonstrated all of those qualities in abundance.

Congratulations to Madie, Grace, and Jayden on this outstanding achievement. 💙🤍💙

Congratulations to Dr Brett Clark on receiving the Independent Schools of New Zealand (ISNZ) Honours Award for Outstanding Service to Learning Support. 👏

Many of our Old Collegians will remember Brett and the difference he made during their time at St Andrew's. For more than a decade, he has championed students in the Accelerated Learning Programme, helping them build confidence, achieve success, and realise their potential.

This national recognition is incredibly well deserved, and we know many in our Old Collegians community will join us in thanking Brett for the impact he has had on so many lives.

From the Archives... 1988 OCA Annual Dinner

OCA President Bruce Halliburton (OC 1961) presents Albert Anderson (OC 1978) with the L.G. Maginness Memorial Cup for Sports Personality of the Year. Albert, an All Black lock from 1983 to 1988, played 25 matches for New Zealand, including six Test matches, and was part of the victorious 1987 Rugby World Cup squad.

Interestingly the L.G. Maginness Memorial Cup had a lid back then! If anyone knows what happened to it, we'd love to hear the story. 😉

As we prepare for this year's OCA Annual Dinner on Friday night, it's a timely reminder of the many remarkable Old Collegians who have been recognised over the years.

Great to see our Old Collegians giving back and sharing their experiences with the next generation. 🙌

Recently, two Old Cols from the Class of 2016 returned 10 years on, for the College's annual Boys’ and Girls’ Assemblies, where Samsara Guillemot Mene and Jack Taylor spoke about their journeys since leaving St Andrew’s.

From embracing change and looking after your wellbeing, to valuing practical experience, people skills, and becoming the best version of yourself, both speakers shared honest and inspiring insights into life beyond school.

Join us as we celebrate Lance Rairi (OC 1988), one of this year's distinguished OCA Award recipients.

From learning the drums at St Andrew's College to leading 85 musicians from around the world as Drum Sergeant for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Pipes and Drums, Lance has taken his passion for music to the world stage.

His remarkable journey has included performing at Edinburgh Castle, winning national and international titles, and helping lead some of the finest pipe bands in New Zealand and Australia.

With more than 140 tickets already sold and only limited seats remaining, now is the time to secure your place at one of the highlights of the OCA calendar.

Lance will be recognised alongside a remarkable group of Old Collegians whose achievements span sport, business, philanthropy, the arts, and community service.
