How it works:
In the bilingual program your child is part of an existing NZ school and learns the NZ curriculum fully in French for roughly 3 days each week and in English for the remaining two. This program provides:
- Fluent French speaking teachers
- After school program in French
- French teaching resources
- French library books available to members
- Easy transition back to the French educational system

A minimum level of French is required to enroll in this program and the children, parents and staff are expected to adhere to the special character guiding principles and the core values of the school.

L’Aurore started a 3-week Geometry in Art unit today. It was a big hit. The kids are studying New Zealand and international artists who use geometry in their art. Today we looked at different shapes around us, revised our fractions unit, looked at lots of art inspiration, and tried our hand at making geometrical art. We used compasses, protractors, rulers, stencils, and mirrors to simulate rotational symmetry, and talked about tesselations and optical art illusions. The three weeks will cover patterns, symmetry, transformation, and end with the kids making a final artwork to exhibit of their own.

This week at L'Aurore we are celebrating NZ book week.

We've been reading lots of books, writing book reviews, learning about New Zealand Authors, and thinking about our favourite book characters.

Here are a bunch of photographs of us painting a bookshelf with characters from French and English books to hold some of our reading books. We also added some great quotes from authors who know the value of reading and its importance in introducing us to new ideas, places, characters, and times.

Let's get reading!

🇫🇷✨ We are incredibly proud to see L'Aurore featured on RNZ's Voices podcast!

In just one year, our French-English bilingual class at Haeata Community Campus has grown significantly, reflecting the enthusiasm of families who want their children to experience the benefits of bilingual education and French culture right here in Christchurch.

A huge thank you to our dedicated teachers, students, families, volunteers, and the wider FRENZ community who have helped make this vision a reality.

Today our kids got to hear from New Zealand authors about how they started their careers, where they get their ideas, the writing process, and what books they were inspired by as children (spoiler alert, two of the three writers credited Asterix and Obelix as inspirations).

The writers in the Books Alive! event were:

* Heather Haylock (Koro Wētā, Granny McFlitter)
* Inangaro Vakaafi (Hunt for Niu Tupu)
* Toby Morris (Pūkeko Who-Keko?).

Our tamariki from L’Aurore at Haeata Community Campus had lots of questions for these finalists in the Aotearoa New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.

A highlight was Toby Morris who led the room in a group brainstorm to create a brand new illustration and Pukeko joke. The kids couldn’t stop making Pukeko jokes on the walk back to school.
