From Elizabeth Drummond (aka Gail Hulme)...
My heartfelt thanks for the beautiful words and photos contributed towards the creation of my book, which I shall treasure always.
Over the years, people have sometimes asked me the question, ‘Why stay at Beckenham for so long?’ The answer is simple: Beckenham Te Kura o Pūroto is my home away from home. The Beckenham community has always felt like my ‘school family’ and when you love something so much, it’s terribly hard to say goodbye!
I have so many wonderful and meaningful memories of those first, impressionable years at school, for all the 'once-5-year-olds', and their whānau... and of course, it's such a joy to catch up as the years go by and marvel at the young adults those 5-year-olds have grown up to be.
Thank you so much, once again. Your thoughts and memories mean everything and are enormously appreciated.
Arohanui ki a koutou,
Elizabeth Drummond

A reminder that this Monday, 4th December at 12noon, we will be holding a special assembly to celebrate the contribution made to our school over the past 27 years by Elizabeth Drummond. Whilst Elizabeth is absolutely not retiring, she will be finishing her permanent full-time role at the end of this year.
You are invited to join us.

Very proud of our tamariki and staff as they build each year on the work around the ponds done by previous year's students.

The amazing Elizabeth Drummond (aka Gail Hulme) is retiring from her full-time permanent role at Beckenham at the end of this year. Whilst she will be back next year in a fixed-term role for part of the year, we cannot let over 25 years of distinguished love and commitment to the tamariki of Beckenham go without some proper acknowledgement.
We want to put together a book of memories to give to Elizabeth at the end of this year.
If you have a cherished memory that you would like to contribute to the book, (limit of 130 words) please email that memory to [email protected]
If you have a photo that you would like to also offer, please attach that to your email.
The deadline for emails will be Thursday 16th November to allow us time to put the memory book together.
Please keep this a surprise! Elizabeth isn't on Facebook, so she won't see this!

We have heard today that teachers will not be striking this coming Wednesday, however, they will be attending a paid union meeting between 1pm and 3pm in the afternoon to discuss their new offer.
This means we will not be able to staff the school on Wednesday afternoon. The Board asks that parents collect their children at 12.40pm in order for staff to attend their union meeting.
This coming week or so will be:
Monday 29 May - normal hours
Tuesday 30 May - normal hours
Wednesday 31 May - half day, early closing at 12.40pm
Thursday 1 June - normal hours
Friday 2 June - normal hours
Monday 5 June - King's Birthday - Public holiday - school closed
Further Information
Instead of strike action there will be primary teacher Paid Union Meetings on Wednesday 31 May
Will BOSCO be operating between 12:40-3 pm?
At this stage, we don't know but more info about this will come later on Monday from BOSCO,
Why has the 14 days notice of Paid Union Meetings not occurred as required?
The Secretary for Education has exempted the Union from the notice period.
What next?
Union members will be voting on a new employment agreement offer between Wednesday 31st May and Tuesday 6th June.
What will happen next if members reject the coming offer?
Any further industrial action would not happen until Thursday 15th June at the earliest due to legal requirements to give three days' notice.
The Board appreciate that this is tricky for many families to organise, especially at short notice. The Board also acknowledge that this negotiation is not simply about pay, but that our teachers are asking for time to support children, better support and funding for children with diverse learning needs to be able to get better outcomes for our children.
SUMMARY: Please collect your children at 12:40pm this coming Wednesday 31 May, due to teacher Paid Union Meetings.

Kia ora e te whānau
The PTA and I have just made the difficult call to postpone Friday's disco for two key reasons...
We have a rising daily number of Covid cases in the school at the moment. Today we had 15 students and 4 staff away with Covid - this is higher than any single day last year. For us to run the discos with a reasonable Health and Safety plan in place, the PTA need enough volunteers at each of the four discos to have the hall doors open, and adults on each door, as well as a number of adults supporting other roles.
With only 48 hours to go, the PTA have less than half the adult volunteers that they need to help at each disco to make the discos both successful and safe.
The PTA will look at holding the Discos later in the year, and will put out another call for volunteers at that time.
Thanks for your understanding.

When: Thursday 23rd March 2023, 5:30pm-7:30pm
