We run holiday programmes each school holidays (except the Christmas holidays). This is often a great way to get a taste of what we do at the Art Metro for children. We are completely full for these holidays. If you are interested in booking a space for your child for the next holidays, it's always good to contact us a few weeks before the end of term to make sure you get a space.

Our holiday programme had a great start yesterday. Here's some of the artworks based on animals.

Introducing Veronique Lambert - "Veronique Lambert

I come from France but have lived in New Zealand with my family for the past 12 years. I first began to paint 14 years ago.

France (2009-2011)
I first discovered painting at Johannes Wahono Painting School where I explored a variety of different media. I had the chance to try watercolour, acrylic, pastel, charcoal, oil painting and more.

Hamilton (2021-2017)
After moving to New Zealand I wanted to keep painting and joined the Waikato Society of Art (WSA) where I had the opportunity to learn from Jance Fich and Jennie De Groot who taught me about academic drawing and oil painting.

Christchurch (2019-2022)
I have had the opportunity to be taught by Wayne Seyb (at the Drawing Room) who allowed me to discover novel ways to explore oil painting. I learnt about modern oil application techniques such as sketching, knife and large brush work.

Christchurch (2023-present)
I recently joined a new school – Art Metro – and had the opportunity to learn from Sarah Garland, and explored the mix of modern and traditional painting.

I would like to thank my teachers for their encouragement and patience: for sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for painting with me. I hope you enjoy the exhibition."

You can view Veronique's landscapes at The Platform - Gallery @ Art Metro Monday-Thursday 10am- 3.30pm, or by appointment.

Introducing Pam Wheeler - "I started painting in 2020 with lessons at Art Metro. In 2021 and 2022 I did a few lessons and paintings and lost confidence – almost gave up. Then I came back to Art Metro 2023 and have renewed my tuition and regained my desire to keep painting and see how I can progress. Now fully
retired for the past 2 years I have lots of time to dedicate to the cause!
I enjoy painting landscapes and spend a bit of time in Southland lakes area."

You can view Pam's landscapes at The Platform - Gallery @ Art Metro Monday-Thursday 10am- 3.30pm, or by appointment.

I thought this was a cool idea!

Last week Alysha finished this painting in her after school class. Turns out it was a present for a friend so I couldn't put the photo up until this week.
She's 12!

I love seeing what the children choose to work on in their classes. Here's a sample of some work in progress from this afternoons after school drawing classes. Such a diverse range of subject and style.

Kasenia (7 years old) is exploring watercolours today - great job!

We had a wonderful Gallery evening last Friday for one of our students - Grazie. Plenty of sales happened on the night, but the work will be up throughout the rest of March with some originals still available, as well as some beautiful high quality prints and cards. Come on down 10-3pm Monday-Thursday, or by appointment.

Paige (10 years old) has been with us for just four weeks. Annika, her tutor, has been developing Paige's natural talent. I love how Paige has captured the essence of the subject photo and added her own twist. I can almost feel that fur.
