This month we have been busy getting out and about within the Rangi Ruru grounds. One of our highlights has been visiting the school garden, where we found a beautiful swan plant filled with caterpillars

We have been working together to make a collage of the Tino Rangitiratanga flag in the art room. It’s still a work in progress but it is looking amazing so far.
A reminder that preschool is closed today,6 February, for Waitangi Day. We are back open tomorrow Friday. We have been learning about Waitangi Day by listening to stories about what a treaty is, we created our own rules to help us to share the preschool and work together and we sang the New Zealand national anthem under the flag pole as we raised both the New Zealand flag and the Maori Tino Rangatiratanga flag.
Thanks to all the families who have sent in their summer holiday photos. The children are really enjoying sharing their holiday experiences with their friends and teachers. These photos provoke so many conversations about shared experiences, similarities and differences between the children and how they spent their Christmas break. If you haven’t yet sent in some photos there is still time for your child to be a part of these conversations- pop some pics in via email or through messenger to this page.
If you planted any sunflowers (or grew your Preschool grown sunflower) please send us a photo of how it looks now. We hear that some have grown super tall and we would love to see them.
Kia ora Rangi Ruru families,
Just a reminder that we are open Monday 13th Jan 2025 at 8.00am. We hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas break, 🎄 and we are looking forward to seeing you all again.
We have a few spaces available this term, so if you are wanting extra hours or know of families wanting to enroll, now would be a great time. Please contact the office and talk with Sue. 😀
Wishing all our Rangi Ruru whanau a very happy New Year and a safe night. Roll on 2025
I’m sure many of you will have heard about our many fire alarms this week as the system undergoes testing. Then yesterday two fire trucks arrived while we stood out in the grass - fortunately a false alarm.
We do want to take this opportunity to remind everyone to talk about fire safety with your children. Do they know what to do if there is a fire at home? Where do you meet up outside? Have you practiced this so they know what to do? Please take a moment to have a fire drill over the holiday break - a few minutes now could save a life.
Only one more sleep until our Preschool Christmas Party. We hope to see you all there from 10am. Bring a picnic and get ready for fun. Santa will arrive around 11am. There will be a coffee cart and ice creams available for purchase.
Please also ensure you have talked to all children in your care about safety around the trains, the tunnel and the train tracks to keep all children safe.
Here is the second clip from our Christmas singing today.
Thanks so much to the families who were able to join us at the school chapel this afternoon to sing our annual Christmas songs. The children have been practicing these songs for the past few weeks and they were amazing. We are so proud of them all.
Thanks so much to Alex for recording the moment for us. Click the link to see the video on our private YouTube account.

With the end of the year fast approaching we just have a few reminders.
Closing dates: we are closed from the 20th of December until the 13th of January.
Could you please fill a form (there will be hard copies in the foyer) to let us know your intentions on when you will return next year, also if you are finishing before the 20th of December please let us know.
This coming Monday we are singing our Christmas songs in the school church at 1.45pm, we would love to see the tamariki wearing their favourite Christmas outfits, hats etc. You are very welcome to join us.
A very warm welcome is extended to all families to Rangi Ruru Preschool Christmas party on Saturday the 7th of December from 10am at the Mclean’s Island miniature train picnic area.
We hope that you and your family will be able to come along and share in this tradition with us. Feel free to bring siblings and grandparents.
This social occasion will provide an opportunity to put a face to the name of your child’s Rangi Ruru friends, meet some other parents and spend some time chatting with our teachers.
We ask that each family bring along their own picnic (or similar) and a picnic blanket.
Santa is planning on joining us, around 11 am so could you please drop off a small book present for your child ( there will be a bag in the office). Please Christmas wrap and clearly name for your child If you have any other siblings attending the picnic, please include a book present for them as well.
Hope to see you there!
Kia pai tō rā
