For the first time in over a decade, we’re naming new icons of St Bede’s... and what better occasion than the Centennial Old Boys’ Dinner to make history again.
In the lead-up to this special night, we’re revisiting the six remarkable Bedeans who were honoured as the college’s first icons. Men whose lives, values, and service left a lasting legacy.
First up is Gary Lennon (1953–1957) – Pupil, Teacher, Coach and Leader. A man whose decades of service shaped generations. His leadership and humility, embodied Fide et Opere – by Faith and by Works.

We’re proud to share that the Bedean Choir will perform at the Wednesdays at One concert series this week! It is a great opportunity to hear our talented students in action, and we know they would love to see some of our old boys in the audience too!
A reminder that St Bede's is giving a lunchtime concert tomorrow (Wednesday) at St Mary's ProCathedral Music Centre at 1:10pm. In addition to the Bedean Choir, choir members will perform as soloists, and in duos and groups, presenting a wide range of music. Programmes are $15 at the door. Please allow time for parking in this busy part of town.

Oops – Time Correction!
Heads up, Auckland old boys! The kick-off time for the 1st XV match vs St Peter’s today is actually 12.45pm, not 12pm as previously shared. That means that there is plenty of time to grab a coffee before heading to the sideline.
The gathering at the Horse & Trap is still kicking off at 4pm – we hope to see you there for a few yarns and a cold one.

Bedeans Make History!
A huge congratulations to Tom Robertson and Maddox Wright (both 2020–2024), who played a key role in the NZ U20 Touch team’s heart-stopping 5–4 extra-time victory over Australia in the final of the Asia Pacific Touch Youth Cup on Saturday!
This historic win marks the first time New Zealand has ever beaten the Aussies in this tournament at U20 level — and it came down to one final, flying moment: Maddox’s incredible try-saving touch in the dying seconds.
Check out the fantastic photo that captured the moment below.
What a result — we’re super proud of you both!

ST BEDE'S COLLEGE OLD BOYS REPRESENT! 🏉💙
What a game on Saturday 10th May, as the New Brighton Rugby Colts took on the Linwood Rugby Colts in a fierce battle in Round 2 of the Bascik Transport Canterbury Metro Colts competition.
New Brighton came away with the win in a hard-fought match, but the real highlight was seeing twenty one St Bede's College Old Boys on the field—a mix of 2022–2024 school leavers, proudly representing their new clubs.
Incredible to see the brotherhood developed at St Bede's College continuing on beyond the classroom and into club rugby. Best of luck to all our Old Boys for the season ahead!
Front row (L to R): Sam Ifopo, Tom Robertson, Josh Cusin, Max Coltman, Leo Lewis, Ollie Monks, Joey Pawson, Billy Lewis, Revel Mumuta
Back row (L to R): Dan Parkin, Jacob Burke, Stijn Lutters, Noah Barrett, Finn Gavigan, Tyler Ikin, Flynn Martin, Reuben Ngariki, Caleb Stevens, Luke Norton, Jonty Fryer, Joey Kilworth.

A meaningful moment in Bedean history - the Papal Flag raised in reverence and pride.
Today we raised the Papal flag to honor Pope Leo XIV as he begins his papacy.
Pope Leo speaks to the hopes and concerns of this generation... from care for the environment to affirming the dignity of all people. He challenges us to bring our faith into action - Fide et Opere - not just in prayer, but in how we treat others, defend what is right, and serve those in need.
