It’s with great sadness that we advise the death of Donna Heenan. Donna has been Treasurer of the Avonside Girls High School Old Girls/Past Pupils Association since 2008.

The Committee know that she’s been unwell for some time and we’re all very saddened to learn of her passing.

A representative of our association will contribute to the eulogy at her funeral which will be in the chapel of John Rind Funeral Directors, London Street, Richmond on Tuesday 22nd September at 1.00pm.

SAC Assistant Volunteering Role AVAILABLE

Avonside Girls High School/Te Kura Kōhine o Ōtākaro is looking to expand our team of volunteers who support students with Special Assessment Conditions for NCEA assessments. No previous experience is necessary, although the ability to connect with young people, read out loud with fluency and write legibly with correct spelling is vital.

Special Assessment Conditions (SACs) are provided to ākonga who have a learning difficulty that inhibits their performance during assessments. A reader, writer, or supervisor is provided to support students in various ways such as reading questions aloud, writing dictated answers, or supervising them in a separate space.

We require volunteers during the school year for both in-class assessments and exams. The exams take place in May, September, and November. In-class assessments happen throughout the year.

If you wish to give your time to support our amazing students, then let us know via the details given here. We require our volunteers to complete a police vetting form and attend a short training session.

Huge congratulations to past pupil Freya Perrett! 🎨🖊

Freya's 2024 level 3 painting portfolio was chosen as one of the top portfolio's in the country, and is now travelling around New Zealand as part of the Top Art exhibition.

Freya consistently worked hard on this body of work over the 2024 year and is an incredibly talented, intricate painter. Well done Freya!
