In O'Reilly it has been super exciting to see our tamariki taking an interest in emergent writing.

We understand that in order for a child to hold a pen they need to have formed sufficient fine motor skills to control their hands. Lucky for us these skills are being developed through the Montessori curriculum where children are completing practical life activities everyday. Here at Learning Curves we teach phonics by combining phonics with sensory learning. While learning the sounds, children are given sandpaper letter cards to touch while they voice out the sound for each letter. Phonics allows a child to learn the sounds individually and eventually develop an understanding of how these sounds work in groups and whole words. Key skills required for both reading and writing.

Last week one of our lovely O’Reilly teachers, Liza, spent her week in Wellington at a block course for her Montessori Diploma. Unfortunately she was unable to get back for her graduation. So today, at Learning Curves, we created a special morning for her to receive her Bachelors. The children loved being involved, and so did we 🤍

ZABEEL (18months-3years)

Zabeel at Learning Curves Lincoln is room where you will walk in and find yourself feeling at home. In Zabeel we have a strong desire to form trusting relationships with not only our tamariki but also our whanau.

We focus on fostering independence, creative minds and supporting our tamariki in actively exploring our environment. Over the past month as we have been settling in, we have been engaging in lots of sensorial activities such as water play and painting. We often have water outside or in, with our animals or washing the dolls. We created some beautiful reindeer artwork for Christmas using our hands to paint. Zabeel loves engaging in demonstrations at group times and the tamariki enjoy watching their kaiako demonstrate and then taking their turns.

Our focus has been on ensuring each child and whanau has gained a strong sense of belonging by building friendships and promoting working with and alongside each other.
We are a busy hub that loves to look for bugs in the garden, read stories, engage in practical life skills or eat lots of our nutritious and yummy kai. We have often had picnics outside on our grass in the sunshine!

As much as we are a busy crew, when you enter our room, you will feel a sense of calmess and a desire to be part of our fun!
Come and check us out, we would love to see you!

PENTIRE (0-18months)

Kia ora, our Pentire room is the nursery here at Learning Curves Montessori Lincoln with an ongoing commitment in proving quality care learning environments for infants and toddlers.

Pentire is full of passionate kaiako who prove children freedom to achieve in a Montessori / RIE inspired environment.

As your child is entering our nursery at such a vital age in their learning, our commitment to you is to advocate for infants and toddlers empowering them to grow and learn as individuals, supporting their emotional and social competence, creating that important sense of belonging.

Each child is allocated a primary caregiver who will ensure your child’s daily routines are met. A natural relationship and connection between kaiako and child is formed. All of our children have done so well with transitioning and connecting with their kaiako. We have received so many lovely and wonderful messages on the way our kaiako have welcomed our families into their hearts and we couldn’t be more happier hearing those comments.

As we stepped into the new centre in December 2022 we opened up our arms to so many beautiful young infant and toddlers. Our aim was to give whānau and their tamariki a sense of belonging through implementing routines and one on one care moments to settle both whānau and children into the new learning environment.

This year in the Pentire room we have continued the focus of creating those sense of belongings and continue to welcome more infant and toddlers into our room. We have loved empowering children through messy play and embracing our open spaces outside. We enjoy creating a prepared environment suitable for all ages, a specific infant area where our younger children are able to have a safe space of their own if they ever need.

Our shelves are filled with many natural and heuristic resources that give children the stimulation and freedom to create practical life experiences with. An introduction to Montessori learning and development is found right here in the Pentire room through group sessions explaining the process of how a Montessori mat and tray works. Giving children a chance to complete their own work cycles in their independent spaces while also learning the importance of sharing and patience, You will be surprised with how quickly children younger than one understand and comprehend patience and practicing quiet times.

We are so proud of the space we have created and continue to create in our Pentire nursery, we can’t wait to see what the year holds for us.

Your Pentire team xx

How lucky are we to have such beautiful tamariki at Learning Curves! This week the focus has been on supporting the children to form friendships with their new peers and teachers. We have loved getting to know the children and their families! The smiles and laughter flowing through the rooms tells us that the children are happy and thriving in their new environment! With less than three weeks until Christmas, we have started practicing some Christmas songs too - I am sure they'll go home singing them tonight!
