If a 'Greater Christchurch' is to exist, our current Public Transport system is woefully unequipped to support it. The good news is that we can make things better, but it will need serious change.

Thanks to Te Pūtahi Centre for Architecture and City Making and the Open Christchurch festival, the public have the chance to view the new One NZ Stadium at Te Kaha today.
It’s really really impressive. A testament to the team who’ve built it and something I think we will all come to love.

Nelson is an anomaly when it comes to rail. Despite being the fourth largest city in the South Island, it has none.
That wasn't always the case – even up until the 1960s.

For those in the Papanui Area, consultation is now underway on the renewal of Condell Avenue – something that was keenly discussed during the election cycle.
This is a real opportunity to fix the current issues with the road and to improve its safety. Part of this renewal is constructing the short section of the North-West Arc Cycle Route between Aorangi and Matsons.
Consultation is now open until Sunday, the 10th of May. Have your say at https://letstalk.ccc.govt.nz/condellrenewal

A massively disappointing update on the CCC MRT Route Protection work this morning. It appears we are moving at a slower-than-glacial pace.
Council briefings show that not only are they just beginning the process, but also "we’re still at least 12 months away from knowing what additional land we may need for a future MRT route."
This is a massive letdown, as the assumption was that this work was already underway – and at pace. This means it will be 12 months before we have any firmer idea of cost, final route, or implications for land zoning, and until that point only high-level discussions will be taking place.
To say this is disappointing from CCC would be both an understatement and completely expected. More needs to be done to speed this process up.

New Zealand political parties have lost touch with the electorate. Culture wars dominate instead of meaningful work around issues that matter to most.
Overseas, this isn't the case. We need to revisit how the left of politics works for the people.
