Creating intergenerational change in our relationship with nature. Environmental Education & the Arts

19/06/2026

Now LIVE: In Episode 43 of The Seed Pod, guest Jacobs Corban and I explore the fascinating connections between space, maths, nature, and the patterns that shape our world. We discuss moon phases, Matariki, maramataka, and the value of careful observation in understanding seasonal cycles and our local environments.

We also dive into NASA’s Artemis missions, the perspective astronauts gain when viewing Earth from space, and how space exploration can inspire a deeper appreciation for our planet. Along the way, Grace shares hidden maths in nature, from honeycomb and snowflakes to Saturn’s giant hexagon, and reflects on how curiosity, pattern-seeking, and interdisciplinary thinking help us make sense of the world around us.

This episode is a celebration of wonder, observation, and the connections between Earth, space, and ourselves.

Another fantastic workshop with this weekend at .a.c.otautahi 🙌🏼 A handful of youth leaders came together to connect with nature and build their team through shared experience. We had a photography challenge, grounding exercises, bird song identification activities, nature skits, and playdough adaptations debates. We all had a blast connecting together ❤️✨️

At Climate Action Campus, Ōtautahi we are extremely grateful to be surrounded by a community of collaborators onsite. I recently had the privilege of sharing space with the wāhine from Whiritahi in Te Whare o Hineruāmoa. Hineruāmoa is a place to gather, create, and grow in friendships and confidence while on a journey with mātauranga Māori.

Their wharepora celebrates the art of weaving. From learning tikanga, harvesting harakeke, and extracting muka, to creating baskets and even weaving a small kākahu, there is something here for everyone. They offer programmes for Māori whānau as well as spaces open to anyone wanting to learn and connect.

Whiritahi will be attending the Ōtautahi Made Winter Market on June 21st - a great opportunity to support their kaupapa!

To find out more or get involved, head to Whiritahi on Instagram or email [email protected]

I'm grateful to be giving back to our CAC collaborators through photography, capturing the breadth of work onsite when possible.

Nature without trending audio... Meet the Ngāokeoke/Peripatus! Ngāokeoke are ancient! They have been around since before the dinosaurs, and even though they may look like a caterpillar or a worm with legs, they are so unique that they are actually in their own grouping (phylum).

Their adaptations are pretty fascinating! In particular, as a predator, they can spray an incredibly sticky substance at their prey, which dissolves the prey into a nutrient soup... how cool is that?!

A little late posting due to being unwell… but every day is a chance to learn some local sign language! Here are some nature connection ABCs in NZ Sign Language 🌿

Happy Mother’s Day to the mothers and mother figures who nurture and inspire awe, wonder, and curiosity in the next generation ❤️

These photos are from some recent nature connection moments. Pictured is a South African praying mantis… a gentle reminder not to take parenting inspiration from this species (or many others)... iykyk 😵😵 Thankfully, not all species are created equal ✨️

Happy 100yrs to ❤️ A man who has given a powerful voice to nature, and one that will forever soothe our souls. Thank you for inspiring generations to look a little closer at the natural world around us 🌿
