In Episode 44 of The Seed Pod, guest Imogen (Mo) McRae (Imogen McRae) and I kōrero about lost skills and traditional crafts, with a particular focus on tanning and brikkevev (card weaving). We explore the wonder of foraging, how careful observation becomes part of everyday life through bike touring, and why sharing knowledge matters when it comes to preventing the loss of skills and resources.

We also talk about developing a deeper appreciation for animals and the resources they provide beyond meat, including the huge amounts of time, care and gratitude involved in turning those resources into useful products that can outlast synthetic alternatives. Mo shares her perspectives on the challenges within the leather industry, dealing with hate online, and the idea of moving from cradle-to-grave products towards more circular, cradle-to-cradle approaches to design.

I've been a bit quiet on here recently... for lots of good reasons! I have had two major design project collaborations (yay), we've been fully booked with schools at Climate Action Campus, and I have been gathering together evidence for my Prime Minister's Science Communication Award application 🤯😱 Writing that out is SCARY! I'm so proud of how far The Seed Pod has come since 2023 🥹 Here is a recent moment of nature connection with my daughter, because these moments bring me so much gratitude and keep me grounded 🌟❤️ This is what life's all about!

Teaching ākonga/students to love our invertebrate friends makes my heart happy! We have just wrapped up several weeks of bug learning at Climate Action Campus Ōtautahi, and it has been so wonderful coming back to my roots... and discovering all of those random bug facts I have just waiting for curious learners to uncover!
