After incredible performances at the recent DanceNZMade competition, where the judges declared the level of dance the highest they had seen nationally, we are thrilled to present our Dance Showcase 2024!
💃 Join us on Thursday, 26 September as around 90 talented dancers from Years 7-13, choreographed by our NCEA students, take to the stage in Atawhai. They’ll be showcasing an array of genres that promise to captivate and inspire.
🩰 It’s a night not to be missed, so invite your friends and whānau and join us for a night of dance to remember. This is a free community event, with the opportunity to contribute a koha to our dance programme.

THEATRE FEST SUCCESS 🎭
Our talented ākonga recently performed at the local Theatre Fest competition, with both groups being nominated for regionals. Last weekend was the regional competition, held here at Rangi Ruru. Both of the student directed pieces gained awards. We are so proud of all of you, congratulations on your Theatre Fest success ✨

Congratulations to our actors, directors and our technician for their nomination to the Upper South Island Regional TheatreFest. We are proud to host this festival, on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th August, at the Merivale Lane Theatre at Rangi Ruru Girls' School. For those who missed out on the wonderful comedic performances by our students, you get a second chance to see both - along with performances from groups from throughout the Upper South Island. A busy week for us here as we audition for Madagascar Jnr, and prepare for Canterbury TheatreFest - a wonderful weekend of local theatre at our own Merivale Lane Theatre. We are very proud of our student directors and performers. Toi toi toi!

From thousands who applicants from across the globe, Ava Fitzsimmons (Year 13) was selected as one of 26 students to attend the prestigious Tisch New York University summer dance programme currently taking place. For the last three weeks, Ava has immersed herself in the world of dance, attending university Monday to Friday - eight hours a day, dance performances in the evenings, and participating in weekend workshops.
💃 During the programme, Ava is earning college-level credits. From a focus on dynamic alignment, ballet and contemporary technique to creative research in dance concentrating on composition, repertory, improvisation, anatomy, kinesiology and media studies - every aspect of dance is being explored intensively.
👩🏼🎓 Whilst at Tisch, Ava is being exposed to student life as well, living in a dorm room on campus with another arts student.
🙌🏼 Congratulations Ava - what an exciting opportunity. We hope you are having a blast!

HANDS UP FOR THE END OF TERM 2! 👐
Term 2 has been massive for Theatre Arts here at Rangi Ruru! 👏 The Dance companies have been gearing up for DanceNZMade, Drama Club put on their first showcase, Senior Drama classes performing class plays and devised pieces, Theatre Sports training for their upcoming comps, students rehearsing for TheatreFest, Year 8 Showquest and of course the production of ‘Anything Goes’ with Christ College! 💃🏼🎶
Congratulations to all of our students who have shared their shine this term! A special shout out to our Year 8’s at Showquest who received Highly Commended awards for lighting and soundtrack, and also a ‘School Spirit’ award for showing support to other schools throughout the event. You should all be extremely proud of yourselves! ⭐️
We hope you all have a well deserved break with your whānau and we look forward to seeing you all back in Term 3! 🎭

Rangi Ruru Girls' School is very excited to present 'An Evening of Dance'; the first theatre arts performance event to take place in our brand-new sports and multi-purpose centre, Atawhai.
We invite whānau and friends to come and enjoy the dancing delights offered by our Rangi Ruru dance companies comprising of students from across the school's year levels 7-13, and choreographed by our NCEA students.
All are welcome, please feel free to invite friends who would enjoy this.
