Aotearoa Tamil Library – Christchurch

Our library holds a wide collection of Tamil story books for children, ideal for bedtime reading. These books help strengthen language skills, cultural identity, and imagination from an early age.

Parents in Christchurch are encouraged to bring their children and explore our growing collection. Creating a habit of reading Tamil at home builds vocabulary, confidence, and connection to heritage.

Visit Aotearoa Tamil’s Library and make bedtime stories a meaningful daily practice.

We are pleased to add Tikanga Whakaaro – Key Concepts in Māori to our library collection.

Words such as aroha, mana, and tapu are familiar across Aotearoa. This book examines what they truly mean within Māori knowledge systems. It provides clear explanations in both English and Māori for seventy key concepts central to Māori culture. Each term is defined and grounded in tradition, custom, myth, ritual, and present-day understanding.

Drawing from the teachings of the whare wānanga, along with karakia and whakataukī, Cleve Barlow presents a structured account of the spiritual and philosophical foundations of te ao Māori. His work bridges Māori and Pākehā worlds, combining anthropological and linguistic insight with ancestral knowledge passed down through generations.

Written for both Māori and Pākehā readers, this book supports learners of te reo Māori at all levels through parallel translation and deep conceptual explanation. It is a substantial resource for anyone seeking to understand how Māori view the world.

We extend our sincere thanks to the generous donor for contributing this valuable work to our collection.

Now available in our library.
