Dear Parents and Caregivers,

St Martins School will be looking to enter some mini ball basketball teams in the Year 3/4 Term one competition at Pioneer Stadium.

There are two competitions:

Wednesday nights (28th February, 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th March, 3rd April )

Thursday nights (29th February, 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th March, 4th April)

Games are played between 3.30pm to 7.30pm

It costs $265 to enter a team. The cost will be divided up by the number of players in the team (6-8).

Players are required to wear a mouthguard. These can be purchased at Sports Stores or at Pioneer for $5.

Parents take their children to and from Pioneer Stadium, arriving at least 10 minutes before the scheduled game. The games are half an hour long.

Please email Jarad Pateman no later than Thursday 25th January with the following:

1. Child's name

2. The day they wish to play, Wednesday or Thursday.

3. If you are keen to coach a team or help out with managing the subs and scoring at the games.

Kind Regards,

Mr Pateman,

The Tuna Action group has been working with Marie from Predator Free Port Hills to get a better understanding of predators and pests around our Port Hills communities, and their impact on our native species.

The group would like to invite whānau to attend a free trap building day at St Martins School! They will be supported by the wonderful Predator Free Port Hills team. Check out the attached flyer made by students in the Tuna Action group for all the information.

Come and build a rat trap and protect our native fish, birds, insects and lizards!

Thanks to the PTA for the wonderful edition of new playground markings throughout the school. The tamariki are absolutely enjoying these.

Today was the first day of Spirit Week for our Year 8s. The tradition started a few years ago — each day this week, there will be a different dress up theme. Today's theme was Career Day (dress up as your future career choice).

Among the bunch, we had a cardiologist, mad scientist, teacher, farmer, physiotherapist, NBA stars, an engineer, vet, CEO and lawyer.

What an exciting future you all have ahead of you!

Kia ora koutou,

A group of students from the Tuna Action group at St Martins School have spent most of this year working on an Inquiry into the health of the Ōpāwaho and the Tuna Kuwharuwahru (NZ Long Fin Eels) that inhabit it.

They created this video to educate our school community, and they have one more action that they would love to bring to life ... a mural out in the wider St Martins / Opawa community that would educate the public about this taonga species living in our freshwater environments.

If you are able to support us in any of the following ways, please contact Susie Keenan ([email protected]).

We are on the lookout for:
- A space (wall, building, fence, etc) that would be appropriate for a mural to be painted on and visible to the public
- An Artist (the group would love to share their vision with a potential artist / support in the creation of the mural)
- Sponsorship (we have already fundraised some money and are willing to organise more fundraising opportunities to go towards the cost of creating a mural).

In the the Year 7/8 grade, we had Louise and Ben get 2nd in the mixed race.

Well done to all our competitors!
