Tamariki have been very creative with how they’re using loose parts this week. An ant trail to find food was created in the stone pit, while inside a magical wonderland for the animals developed from block play.
Loose parts promotes creativity, collaboration, negotiation, problem solving, imagination and helps build knowledge of how the world we live in works.

Last week, we began an exciting inquiry with the tamariki into the world of insects and bugs, transforming our learning space into one of curiosity and discovery.
Guided by the Curiosity Approach, this inquiry is empowering the tamariki to take the lead in their learning — observing, questioning, and creating. Through these experiences, they are developing independence, creativity, and a deeper understanding and connection to nature.

Scarlet worked hard yesterday to create a sensory space for our Pepe to explore and discover within. Sensorial experiences are the primary driver for curiosity and exploration for our youngest tamariki.

Last week we welcomed a new trough into our learning space, and it has already become a favourite among the tamariki. Whether it is water, natural materials, or sensory play, the tamariki have loved exploring, experimenting, and imagining together.
Last Thursday, the sunshine brought summer vibes early, with temperatures soaring up to 28 degrees. No worries.... our trusty sprinkler was turned on, and the tamariki ran, danced, and laughed through the cool spray. To top it off, each child received an ice block to quench their thirst and celebrate the fun day.
There is always a variety of fun learning experiences to engage the tamariki at Active Explorers Central City. Come and see us to experience the joy on offer every day

"Happy Deepavali/Diwali"
Active Explorers Central City came alive with the spirit of Diwali last week, glowing with colour, music, and joy. The children and kaiako embraced the celebration in beautiful traditional attire. This set a joyful and inclusive tone for learning and discovering.
“Through the glow of Diwali, everyone discovered that understanding and kindness are the brightest lights of all.”

Last week we began introducing a new glue-gun station into the classroom to support tamariki in their visual arts learning. We took time to practice holding them and discussing safety for a couple of days before we turned them on. Tamariki have enjoyed the process of experimenting and making discoveries about the opportunities a glue-gun provides for their creations.

Friday Highlights
Kia ora Māhuri Whānau,
This week, the tamariki demonstrated incredible initiative by reimagining their learning environment. They identified that the wall mirror, tucked away in a hard-to-reach corner, limited their access and use. With support from their kaiako, the space was rearranged—removing barriers to the wall mirror - transforming it into what has become a vibrant space for connection and exploration.
Collaborative play is flourishing through shared picnics and imaginative role play
The mirror now supports self-awareness, identity exploration, and engaging reflections
While looking in the mirror, the older tamariki are confidently applying sunscreen with precision, demonstrating growing independence and a strong sense of self-care."
These moments reflect the power of child-led learning and the importance of an inclusive environment where tamariki feel seen, heard, and valued.

The tamariki have continued to demonstrate creativity and imagination through their exploration and use of loose parts within their learning space, as well as mindfully participating in experiences connected to developing their fine motor skills.
