Today, the tamariki were very excited as they went outside to catch snowflakes falling from the sky. As the snow continued, our whole preschool kaiako team worked together to bring the winter weather indoors through sensory play. The Discoverers explored snowy textures with sand playdough, the Explorers extended real-life experiences of skiing, snowboarding and ice skating with a salt-based sensory activity, and the Wayfinders created winter animal habitats using cornflour and shaving foam. A great way to celebrate an exciting Snow Day at preschool!

Our Wayfinders tamariki participated in their own Commonwealth Games today!
After spending the past few weeks learning about the Games during our Discovery Times, the tamariki selected the sports they wanted to participate in at preschool. There was a range of sports uniforms worn as the tamariki shared their amazing growth motor skills, determination and sportsmanship.
To finish, we celebrated every child’s hard mahi (work) with a special certificate. We are so proud of our Wayfinders!

Our Trailblazer Transition to Kura (School) curriculum is informed by Te Whāriki and the knowledge gained from visits to primary schools in our community. This helps create a local curriculum that supports a smooth transition from preschool to primary school.
Our Wayfinder tamariki have been strengthening their numeracy skills by exploring the 10-frame approach through a range of engaging learning experiences. This is a great way for tamariki to begin visualising mathematical concepts through fun, game experiences.

Our Explorers have been learning all about the rainy winter weather through sensory explorations. Using blue water with droppers and cornflour clouds, they explored how rain falls whilst also strengthening their fine motor skills and grip strength. It is a great way to support and refine their working theories about the world around them.

Our Wayfinders tamariki loved creating a trail of green footprints across a large stretch of paper, celebrating each step of their learning journey.
At Avonhead Early Edventurers, we value each child’s unique pathway. As kaiako, we walk alongside them with encouragement, guidance, and care as they discover where the next step in their educational adventure will lead them.

This evening, over 100 whānau and tamariki joined us for our Matariki celebration. Together, we shared kai, enjoyed three waiata performed by our tamariki, and explored a range of Matariki-inspired activities. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate this special time of year.

Last week, our transition to school tamariki enjoyed participating in Teacher Week! Each child was invited to bring a favourite book or game from home to share and teach their friends. It was wonderful to see the pride and confidence they showed while developing their leadership, communication, and sharing skills. A meaningful learning experience as they continue to grow a love for learning.

Our Discoverers enjoyed creating animal tracks and fossil impressions in brown playdough yesterday. Through stamping and pressing they were developing their fine motor skills while investigating the marks left behind by the animal toys.
