Recently as part of the EETech (Live Sound/Lighting) programme. MAINZ EETech students, visited Otautahi's venues, The Town Hall/James Hay theatre, the Piano, Isaac Theatre Royal, and Little Andromedia.

It was an awesome time to network with local Industry and see live/potential future work places for our students.

Oscar Goodwin is living his best life as he trains for a career in music, building on his early start in the industry. Having always been into music and already established himself as a DJ in his home town of Wanaka during his secondary school years, the decision to study it was easy for Oscar. “I play about eight instruments, but my [main] background is with drums and guitar. I love it. Music’s pretty much my whole life,” he says.

Initially planning to study in Wellington, Oscar took a chance on an opportunity which popped up through his friends, when he got a place in a flat with mates who’d gone to MAINZ the previous year. Enrolling in the MAINZ Audio Engineering and Production Level 5 programme, Oscar headed to Christchurch instead.

Entering the MAINZ course without many expectations, Oscar says it has fulfilled the desire he had to study music for a year. “It’s been a great excuse to do music full-time... it’s what I’ve wanted out of it, for sure.”

The latest state-of-the-art sound studio at our campus has been around four years in the making, and ensures MAINZ students are gaining an industry-standard training experience in immersive audio.

MAINZ Programme Manager, Ivan Shevchuk, said the studio was now complete after the final install recently took place - upgrading some of the speakers to Adam audio speakers, with professional installation from long-time industry partner, Rockshop NZ.

Immersive audio - also known as Dolby Atmos - has been around in the movie world for more than a decade.

Last Sunday, was #9 Music & Audio Institute of New Zealand - MAINZ Christchurch Campus/Dux Central Vinyl Day, creating great community vibes and connections within Ōtautahi's CBD.

MAINZ students & staff doing an awesome job with vinyl only DJ sets and was a fun day all round, just like a record. 😉
