MAINZ alumni & modular synthesis expert Michael West (trig music) provided a guest lecture and live demonstration of his modular synth rig for second-year Diploma in Audio Engineering and Production ākonga. 🎚🔊

This was also attended by a few enthusiastic first-year students. The session was well received and very inspiring for students.

📣 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗴 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 - 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲
Trig is an alias of New Zealand electronic music producer Michael West. The Trig project delves into modular synthesis, drum machines, and other electronic gadgets in the studio at the time.

Focused primarily on harder techno, Trig features driving and relentless rhythms, accompanied by aggressive bass and lead sounds, with an overall grim and darker overtone.

Live, Trig is a mangling of mostly all original tracks, with a light sprinkling of New Zealand and international producers, using an Ableton Live-based setup. Michael has performed as Trig at several of Christchurch’s own ‘Kind of Green’ live events and also performs at the New Zealand modular synthesiser festival 'Modfest', held in Auckland annually.

On the release front, Trig has seen tracks released on Auckland’s 'Metallurgic' Records, Christchurch’s 'Kind of Green', and has a forthcoming release with NZ psytrance producer 'Spoonhead'. 2023 is the year of recording and events for Trig. Look out for more releases this year and performances at larger festivals near the end of the year.
