This Week In The Nursery!

Nursery tamariki have enjoyed some activities to enhance their fine motor skills. The Fishing Game and Tweezer Activity help tamariki strengthen their hand eye co ordination, patience and turn taking.

Tamariki use their fine motor skills while conducting hand and wrist movements along with gripping the fishing rod or tweezers.

Patience is learned through repeated attempts to hook the fish or grab the items with the tweezers.

Tamariki also learn and work on their turn taking skills whereby they share rods and tweezers and await their turn.

Fun activities enjoyed by all while learning together through learning and play!

Outdoor Play - Papa Tākaro

Outdoor play provides our tamariki with opportunities to release physical and emotional energy in appropriate ways while they Learn, Laugh and Play!!!

Messy Play - Kori Paru

Nursery tamariki have been exploring a variety of textures during their messy play activities this week.

Messy play provides a great sensory experience where tamariki can engage in original and spontaneous play without preset ideas.

Preschool tamariki created their own planets with different textures and colours. This fun art and science activity helps further develop fine motor skills with the use of scissors and placement of pieces while also encouraging social interaction with their peers.

Fun with Colours!

Nursery tamariki have been exploring different colours and coloured objects which enhances their cognitive skills. Recognising and differentiating colours stimulates brain development and helps children connect objects with their names, fostering language development.

Rolling Ball Painting!

This activity is a great way for tamariki to combine movement and creativity in a sensory experience.

Tamariki use kinetic energy (Kinetic energy is the energy an object possesses due to its motion) and gross motor movements to roll the balls around the tray through the paint to create wonderful abstract works of art!

Matariki is the Māori name for the Pleiades star cluster, which rises in mid-winter to mark the Māori New Year (Te Mātahi o te Tau).

The 2026 national public holiday falls on Friday 10th July. The celebration is centered around three core principles: remembering those who have passed, celebrating the present, and looking to the future.

These activities help our tamariki to recognise their name and numbers, learn how to deconstruct objects while also exploring how they work and the science behind them, sit at a table or mat and further develop social skills with their peers while collaborating in a group.
