Creative kaiako + Hard work = Amazing results

Toi moana - Toi tangata – Celebrate connecting with our seas . Seaweek is a time for all of us to get to know our ocean, its habitats, characteristics, and inhabitants better. At LVPN , we have been learning about and exploring kaitiakitanga.

After learning about the life cycle of butterflies, Tūī’s tamariki have now started exploring about cicadas. The kaiako have been preparing and presenting the best activities over the last few weeks for children to make sense of their expanding world and their place within it through nurturing their wonder, curiosity, agency and exploratory drive.

Our Tūī room tamariki have been working on a collaborative 3D project . By using open-ended, recycled materials, which are often donated by the parents, tamariki learned how to glue, cut, fold, tear, balance, and solve problems in the context of project work. Although, the end product is deemed lovely, it is not the driver of the activity. Rather, it is the process of creating—the enjoyment of creating together—that is at the forefront of the endeavor.

Our Tūī room children are looking after some wee caterpillars. By learning to care for the environment, the creatures and the connections between them, children are able to build kaitiakitanga.

Christmas 2023. Lots of creativity, joy and happy memories.

Our Tūī room is learning how plants, flowers, and foods grow in the past few weeks. This is a great science experiment and learning experience for children. Sprouts in a jar clearly show seed germination and how the seeds grow roots, stem, and eventually bloom.

What is spring 🌼 bringing for us ?
Tui room is working on the topic “New Beginnings” The teachers/Kaiako have been really creative with setting up the activities for children.

Lincoln Village Preschool and Nursery is a hidden gem in the heart of Lincoln, which works in partnership with parents and whānau to provide education and care for infants, toddlers and young children.

Our environment has been designed to cater for small groups of children in age and stage appropriate environments - there are four separate learning spaces and two large separate outdoor spaces. These spaces allow for children to experience calm, welcoming environments with activities that are appropriate to their learning needs.

Our large, private outdoor environments provide space for children to engage with and explore nature, challenge themselves physically and construct. Our curriculum includes providing a range of loose parts which children use their imagination and planning skills to create and invent new games, vehicles, buildings etc.

Our philosophy guides everything we do at LVPN and centres around three concepts -

Manaakitanga - being kind, showing love to ourselves and others
Akoranga - teaching and learning through play, play is the tool we use to learn
Kotahitanga - unity- from appreciating our diversity we are all part of one community and can learn from each other to make a better future
