All you need is a wooden skewer, a paper towel, and a piece of green paper to make these cute caterpillars!

The first week back at MASH has been creatively productive. We tried making spooky trees using a straw blowing technique, made origami sunglasses, and most exciting of all, decorated biscuits!

21st of March was International Forest Day. We spoke about why it is important to save our forests and what little we can do! We then made this 3D mini magical forest - one of our children even came up with the name MASHical forest!

Here is another activity we did in conjunction with International Sea week - Kirigami fish.

Kirigami is a variation of origami, the Japanese art of folding paper. In kirigami, the paper is cut as well as being folded, resulting in a three-dimensional design that stands away from the page.

To celebrate International Sea Week, we made these cute lil' turtles using egg cartons. We even dabbled around with air dry clay to make shells, starfish, and oysters.

Kia Ora,

As we try to keep up with the changes surrounding COVID, we are also continuously being updated with changes around policies and procedures.

It has now to come our attention that if your child is Year 4 or above they are now required to wear a face mask at all times onsite 😷 (unless eating or drinking). We understand that some of these changes can be difficult for our tamariki so our awesome programme managers and leaders will do the best they can to make your child/ren feel comfortable and safe during this stage.

Thank you for your co-operation around this

Thinking of a sweet treat to make for your Christmas lunch or dinner? Here is one yummy dessert for the table, tried and tested at MASH - Fruit Trifle!

Ingredients

Ready-made sponge or Madeira cake
Red & Green jelly, mixed and set (add your favourite flavours - more the merrier!)
Pre-prepared custard (optional)
Fruit salad in juice
Whipped cream
Clear plastic cups/ plastic wine cups

Slice the edges of the sponge cake. Press the plastic cups upside down and push them into the sponge so they cut a circle of sponge out. You may use a cookie cutter instead.
Place this cake in the bottom of the cup.

Spoon two tablespoons of fruit salad (juice and all) on top of the sponge.

Spoon on 1/2 cup custard per cup and then the same of jelly.

Top with cream and sprinkles.

About Us

MASH was founded in 2012 by Craig Fortune, a registered teacher with 10 years experience in the classroom and four young children (now 5!). The skills that he brings ensure that the programmes planned for your children are appropriate for their age, ability and of course are fun and exciting.

Here at MASH, our aim every day, is to provide your children with a fun, stimulating, exciting and safe environment where they are not only well supervised, but are also given the opportunity to enhance their academic, artistic and physical skills.

Our Waimairi Before & After School and Holiday Programme is based in Room, 20 at Waimairi School. This is a fantastic venue with access to gymnasium, field and playground.
