🏆 WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT! 🏆

We are so proud of Airom, who tonight won FIRST PLACE in the Year 5 & 6 Ashburton Primary Schools Rotary Speech Contest Final! 🥇

Airom put so much work into preparing his speech, and tonight he was calm, collected and absolutely amazing. He spoke with confidence and represented Chertsey School beautifully.

And there’s a little bit of history with this one… Airom is the first Chertsey student to get our school’s name on that trophy! 🏆💙❤️

An outstanding achievement and so well deserved.

💚 Lucky to Have a Great Team!

We are so lucky at Chertsey School to have staff who genuinely care about our school and take pride in keeping it looking its best.

Chloe has recently taken over our caretaking duties as she prepares to take full responsibility for this role while Whaea Nin is on study leave next year — and she is doing an amazing job! 🌟

What makes it even more special is seeing our tamariki wanting to lend a hand too. A big shout-out to Isaac, James and Hunter, who have been helping Chloe out — even giving up some of their weekend to help look after their school. 💪

There is something pretty special about kids taking pride in their school and wanting to help care for it. A great little team effort! 💚

🏆 Amazing Results for Chertsey! 🏆

After their success in our school Poems and Speeches competition, Aizack, Airah and Airom Budiao went on to represent Chertsey School last night – and what fantastic results!

We are so proud of all three of you! To stand up in front of an audience and represent your school takes confidence, preparation and courage.

🌟 Proud Past Pupils! 🌟

We love seeing our former Chertsey students continuing to Aim High and Achieve after they leave us!

A huge congratulations to David and Jackson Scott, who are now at Ashburton Intermediate and recently competed in the Aoraki Maths Competition.

🏆 David and his Year 8 team took out 1st place, winning the competition by three points!

👏 Jackson and his Year 7 team placed 4th, completing an impressive 18 out of 20 questions.

It is always special to see our Chertsey tamariki go on to achieve great things. We are very proud of you both, David and Jackson! 💚

Poems & Speeches 2026

What an outstanding effort from our tamariki this year! We were so impressed by the excellent quality of both our poems and speeches.

From our youngest students, who confidently stood up and recited their poems off by heart, through to our Year 3–6 students who prepared and delivered some fantastic speeches, there was so much to be proud of.

A huge thank you to our students for the effort and courage they showed, to our parents and caregivers for the time and support put in at home, and to our staff for encouraging and supporting our tamariki along the way.

A special thank you to Lynley and Amanda for giving their time to judge our competitions. We really appreciate your support. ❤️
And a huge congratulations to the Budiao whānau – what an achievement! 🏆 Aizack, Airah and Airom each took out first place in their respective competitions! An amazing result for one whānau and a very proud moment to celebrate.

Today, four of our amazing students represented Chertsey School at the Canterbury EPro8 Grand Finals, finishing an awesome 8th place! 🏆

We love seeing the ideas Chertsey School continues to bring to life for its tamariki and wider community.

Their latest project is a new purpose-built bike shed, marking one of the final stages of the schools long-running cycling project.

The new bike shed will provide secure, weather-protected storage for the school's bikes and, importantly, will also accommodate adaptive bikes and specialised equipment, helping ensure all tamariki have the opportunity to get involved.

Chertsey School sits outside BRCT's own granting area, which makes partnerships like this particularly valuable. Through The Lion Foundation Regional Grants Committee, we're able to help support communities that we otherwise couldn't fund directly.

Over the past four years, $114,369 in Lion Foundation funding has been granted to Chertsey School, supporting a number of projects and helping this small rural school continue turning some pretty awesome ideas into reality.

The sunshine came out and gave us the most beautiful end to the week at Chertsey School. There’s nothing quite like our little country school on days like these.
