FREE SEMINAR ON TEACHING PHONICS - Thursday, 19 August 2021, 4-5pm. Health and Community Centre, 22a Taylor Street, Cambridge. If you are joining us, please text Maree 027 919 5200 to help with catering. We look forward to meeting you!
Is there a way to teach phonics that makes sense and is effective in the classroom?
‘Yes!’ says founder of About Words, Maree Llewellyn. At this short seminar she will explain how using a systematic and structured phonics program can improve writing, spelling and reading. Phonics makes sense in this five-level program beginning at new entrants and suitable through to Y6. The graded resources are extremely useful in filling ‘learning gaps’ motivating students and improving outcomes.
I might be interested in using phonics this way, how can learn more?
Maree has previously held workshops for teachers, and she will present a clear pathway for those interested in learning how to incorporate a graded phonics program as part of teaching literacy.
Why would I come to this free seminar?
I’m always interested in learning more: ‘So are we, we’d love to meet you!’
I don’t understand some things about phonics: ‘Please come, this will help.’
It’s free, with refreshments.

It’s been a while, we’re supposed to post often and oh sigh, we’ve broken the first rule of the book of faces. Here’s how things have gone. As you know we held a two-day workshop in Palmerston North. Three weeks later we held a follow-up workshop for those who wanted to know more. We could tell you it was ‘all good’ and ‘really positive’ but the feedback from one participant summed up, rather succinctly, the feedback from the group:

We asked the universe to send the most open-minded teachers to attend our first workshop in the Manawatu. Next week we’l...
