🐄📚 Learning Through Communication, Books & Animals 🐧❄️

Our Kākano Village tamariki have been exploring the wonderful ways we communicate and learn through books, animals, and sensory play.

Our farm animal provocation invited tamariki to explore animal books, cue cards, mud and straw, encouraging conversations, storytelling and sharing ideas. 🐖🐑🐄

We also journeyed to the Antarctic, discovering the animals that live in this icy environment. Using shaving foam, dyed water and cornflour icicles, tamariki created a sensory Antarctic experience while learning new words, building knowledge and communicating their ideas. 🐧🧊

Through these playful provocations, our tamariki are developing language, confidence, curiosity and a love of learning. 💕📖✨

We always look forward to our horse-riding lessons with Marion and Sparrow at House of Wonder Cambridge. These experiences provide rich opportunities for our tamariki to learn, connect and develop a sense of responsibility through meaningful and authentic interactions with animals.

The children take great interest in learning about the different brushes and their purposes, feeding Sparrow a treat, developing an understanding of personal safety and experiencing the excitement and joy of riding. Each aspect of the experience encourages curiosity, confidence and active participation.

This beautifully reflects our Reggio Emilia approach, where children are viewed as capable, curious and active participants in their own learning. Through hands-on experiences and genuine relationships with animals, tamariki are able to explore concepts of care, respect, responsibility, risk, independence and belonging in a meaningful context.

✨ Matariki is a special time of celebration in our learning space. ✨

Our tamariki have been embracing the spirit of Matariki by exploring its meaning through play, creativity, and storytelling. We've been enjoying lots of beautiful pukapuka, playing star matching games and Matariki star bingo, and creating colourful star window stickers and other art inspired by the night sky. ⭐🎨📚

Matariki is a time to celebrate the present with our whānau and look ahead with hope for the year to come. It is wonderful to see our tamariki learning about this important Aotearoa tradition while building connections to te ao Māori through fun, hands-on experiences.

We are so proud of the curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm our tamariki have shown as we celebrate Matariki together. Mānawatia a Matariki! 🌟💙

Today our tamariki enjoyed a walk to Te Kooutu Reserve as part of our Bee Active – Kia Hihiri programme. 🌿⚽

With imaginations running wild, they kicked the ball around and pretended they were playing in the FIFA World Cup! Through active play, our tamariki strengthened their bodies and minds, developing coordination, resilience, teamwork, and confidence through intentional movement.

What a fun way to learn, move, and grow together! 💛
