Our junior students have been diving deep into the world of bees this week. To bring this learning to life, Mrs Buckle teamed up with the class to introduce some hands-on coding using our Bee-Bots.
The tamariki started by acting as the "bees" themselves—moving, turning, and following instructions from Mrs Buckle. They then took the reins, coding their digital Bee-Bots to navigate across grids to reach the flowers and honeycomb.
This fantastic lesson perfectly aligns with the Digital Technologies curriculum, teaching our students computational thinking, sequencing, and problem-solving from an early age.
It was also a wonderful opportunity to see our school values in action. The students showed incredible perseverance and resilience, working together to "debug" their code and refusing to give up when things got tricky.
As a proud rural school, we love providing our learners with innovative, real-world experiences that build both academic skills and strong character. Ka rawe, Tawa class!

There is something incredibly magical about winter mornings at Horahora School. While the frosty dew lingers on our paddocks, our Year 7-8 students have been out exploring the damp, hidden corners of our beautiful rural grounds—cameras in hand and curiosity driving the way.
As part of their upcoming Science Fair projects, our students have been diving deep into the fascinating world of fungi. To capture their specimens with scientific accuracy, they’ve been honing their macro photography skills, learning how to look at the world from a completely different perspective.
From the base of our established trees to the shaded spots near the gardens, our school grounds turned into a living laboratory. This hands-on inquiry perfectly blends the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum’s focus on scientific exploration with practical, creative technology skills.

Today, the beautiful, family-like atmosphere of our school walked right through the front door! We were incredibly fortunate to welcome Rose and Anne from Creative Fibre, who generously gifted a beautiful, hand-knitted pair of slippers to every single one of our students. Our students didn't just receive a practical gift today; they experienced a firsthand lesson in empathy and community connection. In return, our tamariki beautifully lived out our school value of Kia Manaaki (Be respectful), demonstrating our value of Appreciation for the immense skill and care woven into every pair. A massive thank you to Rose and Anne for keeping our feet warm and our spirits high.

Yesterday, our school community was honoured to participate in the Cambridge ANZAC Day Civic Commemoration. It was a moving morning of reflection as we gathered to pay our respects to those who have served and sacrificed.
We are incredibly proud of Elliott, who did a fantastic job representing our school with dignity and poise during the ceremony. A huge thank you to Mrs. Ivamy for attending and supporting Elliott, ensuring our school’s tribute was part of this important tradition.
Lest we Forget

Welcome Back for Term 2!
It was brilliant to see the school grounds buzzing with life again this morning! There’s nothing quite like the energy of day one, and it was especially awesome to see all our returning students back and ready to go after the holidays.
As we settle into the new term, we’re staying focused on what matters most:
Growing Our Learning: Building on everything we achieved in Term 1 and diving into new challenges with curiosity.
Our School Community: Making sure everyone feels connected, supported, and proud to be part of our school family.
Check out some of the first-day mahi below! It’s great to have everyone back together. Let’s make Term 2 a cracker!
