Hillside Primary School Welcome to the Hillside School page. We hope you really enjoy finding out about all the wonderful learning experiences our students have.

If you do not know us very well ... We are a small rural school situated in Browns Township 9kms from Winton. the School serves mainly a mixed farming community and families associated with related industries. We are strongly supported by our Parents and Community who are committed in assisting the School, provide a well balanced curriculum. We enjoy a real family atmosphere where all the students look after each other. Enjoy finding out about us.

While some of our students were away yesterday, we decided to put our usual Science programme on hold and have some fun with Kitchen Science instead!

Today was all about our Colour Walk and investigating acids and bases by testing their pH levels using red cabbage as a natural indicator. The students made predictions, tested different substances and observed the colour changes to work out whether they were acidic, neutral or alkaline.

A fun, hands-on afternoon of experimenting, investigating and discovering the science hiding in our kitchen!

It’s not easy getting through to this round, and it certainly isn’t easy being the first to speak on the night either! You showed great confidence, courage and determination, and should be incredibly proud of yourself.

Well, what a day today! I am so incredibly proud of our students and the mana they showed on stage.

We might be small in number, but the volume, courage and heart of our students is HUGE, and today they certainly showed that! Watching them stand up on that stage, give it everything they had and represent our kura was something very special.

While we might have had a little bit of confusion and uncertainty at the start, we found our way, pulled together and got there in the end! I am so proud of how everyone came together, supported each other, adapted along the way and made it happen. Sometimes things don't go exactly to plan, but today showed that when we work together, we can make it happen.

A massive thank you to all of our staff who have worked so hard behind the scenes to get our students to this day. From the practices, organisation, encouragement, hair, costumes and everything in between; no matter the role, it has all been a true team effort.

A huge thank you to Irirangi Luke, who accompanied our students on stage today. Your support, encouragement and willingness to be there with our students helped make today possible. We truly appreciate you being part of such a special day for our kura.

Today was a reminder that you don't have to be big to make a big impact. Our little kura certainly made some noise!

Ka mau te wehi, tamariki mā! We are so incredibly proud of you all. What an awesome way to finish Polyfest!

There will be no assembly tomorrow afternoon as we will be busy recovering from Polyfest! After all the hard work and excitement, we might even use that time to indulge in a little treat to celebrate!

We celebrated Daffodil Day a day early, as we are away at Polyfest tomorrow. It was wonderful to see the student spirit and enthusiasm for the day, with everyone getting behind this important cause.

Together, we raised $71.40!

We were lucky enough to head along and see the Central Southland College production of Beauty and the Beast, and what a fantastic show it was!

It was wonderful to see our students so inspired by the talent and hard work of the students on stage.
