Marlborough Boys' College Marlborough Boys College 5 Stephenson Street Blenheim The first board of Marlborough High School met on 13 November 1899. (Marlborough Express, June 10, 1947)[3]

Three acres on Stephenson Street (1.2 hectares) were purchased for £600 and another 3 acres (12,000 m2) were donated by Thomas Carter, taking the grounds through to Francis Street. Dr John Innes was appointed the first Head Teacher. The school opened in the Church Of Nativity Sunday School building on Alfred Street, on 26 March 1900, with 18 pupils attending on the first day. The cornerstone for t

he first school building on the Stephenson Street site was laid on 22 September 1900.[2]

Marlborough High School was co-educational and fee paying with free places to those who could not afford it but who had proved themselves able in the proficiency examination.[2] The change in name from Marlborough High School to Marlborough College was made in 1919.[2]

In 1926 Mr Stewart (Principal) was awarded a travelling scholarship to visit junior high schools in Canada and the United States. The department of education was interested in incorporating a Junior High (Intermediate) into the College structure.[2] In 1927 an intermediate (forms 1 and 2 or years 7 and 8 in current terminology) was established on the site with 275 pupils taking the total roll to 557. The intermediate continued on the site until 1957, when roll pressures required the establishment of Bohally Intermediate on Mclauchlan Street.[3]

In 1963 the Marlborough Girls' College was founded[4] and Marlborough Boys' College continued on the original site.[5] The first official discussion on the division of the college having taken place in June 1947. Mr Insull the Principal at the time suggested that “the time would come when the board would have to consider the question of separate boys’ and girls’ schools … and that the girls school might be established on the other side of town (Mclauchlan Street)".

This is an opportunity for our staff and students to showcase their pride for where they come from and celebrate their cultures with food and performances. MBC Students Supporting the Next Generation of Innovators

Sometimes the hardest part of the Ripyl Innovation Challenge is coming up with a great idea. Thanks to our MBC student leaders, younger students received the support they needed to get started.

Our students stepped outside their comfort zones to mentor Year 7 and 8 learners at Rauparu Primary School, listening to five groups pitch their initial concepts and helping them strengthen their ideas against the challenge criteria.

The students shared some creative and innovative concepts, including cafés with dedicated spaces for different age groups and a parkour park featuring QR-coded pathways and ability-based circuits.

The groups will now develop their ideas into three-minute pitch videos for submission at the end of the term.

Well done to our MBC students for demonstrating leadership, confidence, and a commitment to supporting younger learners. Best of luck to the Rauparu teams as they prepare their entries for the Ripyl Innovation Challenge at the end of Term 3.

Rogene Daquioag had a highly successful weekend at the NZ vs Victoria International Boxing Tournament, finishing with a perfect 2-0 record.

Fight 1: Won his opening match against North Island Golden Gloves champion Cruso Ford.

Fight 2: Won a tough bout by unanimous decision against Raice Atkin, the top-ranked champion from Victoria, Australia. His strong performance helps build momentum as he prepares for the New Zealand National Championships at the end of September.

The First XI Football team played at the Premier National Tournament in Palmerston North during sports week.

The team just failed to make the top 16 (missing out on second place in their group) on goal difference. Notable results came against Tauranga Boys (who ended up finishing 6th) drawing 0- 0, and winning against Otago Boys 1-0.

Seven games were played over five days with two wins, one draw and four narrow losses. Ending in 28th place the team has progressed in the last two years and hopefully can qualify again next year.

A big thank you to the Air Rescue for their huge generosity and to our sponsors St Clair restaurant, Marlborough Meaters, Constellation w**e, Redwood Trust and Marisco w**e.

A number of players received their cap at Tournament and were well deserved: Caleb McAuley, Jeimar Zapata-Zuniga, Campbell Ferguson,
Alejandro Fernandez-Puertas, Bakoaun Bakoaun, Ben Lindfield and James Parley.

The Boys can be pleased with their accomplishments and represented the College and Province with Pride.
