Coercive control is abuse, even when there are no bruises.
Coercive control can involve isolating someone from family and friends, controlling their money, monitoring their movements, threatening them, controlling what they wear or who they see, using children or pets to intimidate them, and constantly undermining their confidence and independence.
🤬😡
In New Zealand, 55% of women have experienced at least one form of intimate-partner abuse, including psychological abuse, controlling behaviour or economic abuse. Women are also 2.4 times more likely than men to experience intimate-partner violence.
Coercive control is often the pattern behind escalating family violence. We need the law to recognise the pattern of control, not just wait until someone is physically hurt.
💔
Please sign the petition and help make coercive control a punishable offence in New Zealand.
🙋🏻‍♀️
Our sisters, mothers, daughters, friends and whānau deserve better.
No bruises doesn't mean no abuse. Control is violence too.

Petitions are addressed to the House of Representatives and ask that the House do something about a policy or law, or put right a local or private concern.

The sentence of 3 years and 10 months handed to a father who filmed himself abusing his child and distributed those recordings raises a question that so many survivors ask: When is enough, enough?🤬
🤮
The damage caused by this kind of abuse doesn’t end when the offending stops. It can leave a child with lifelong trauma that affects every part of their life. It impacts not only the child, but also the people who love them, who witness their pain, and who walk beside them through the years that follow.
😡💔
As someone who survived this type of abuse, I know firsthand that the effects reach far beyond childhood. It affected my physical and mental health, my relationships, how I saw myself, my ability to learn and succeed in education, and later my ability to find and maintain work. The consequences rippled through every part of my life and, ultimately, society bears those costs too.
💔
No sentence can undo the harm. But when a child’s lifetime of trauma is met with less than four years in prison, it sends a message that many survivors struggle to understand.
🖕
Children deserve better. Survivors deserve better. Accountability must reflect the profound and lasting harm these crimes cause.
When will enough be enough?
Please head on over to Road to Healing - Sam
and sign petitions, speak up, make this pathetic sentence a thing of the past

There is something beautifully simple, yet deeply profound, about how he explains this.
😳
I was raised in chaos and trauma. My brain didn't break—it adapted.
It learned to scan every room. Every change in tone. Every flicker across a face. Every tiny shift that might signal danger. All in an instant.
😳
Then add ADHD.
My mind doesn't stop. It remembers what people say, connects stories across years, and often sees patterns, truth, and risk long before others do.
🤬
I see people. Their kindness. Their pain. Their masks. Their lies.
Sometimes that's a gift.
Sometimes it's lonely.
Because speaking the truth can make you the problem.
But staying silent while you watch someone dangerous gain power can feel unbearable.
💔
For years I questioned myself instead. I overthought everything. I shrank. I apologised for instincts that had spent a lifetime keeping me alive.
I was exhausted.
❤️
Now I see my mind differently.
This isn't just trauma.
This is survival becoming wisdom.
My intuition. My deep reflection. My ability to connect the dots. These aren't flaws—they're some of the strongest parts of who I am.
I've also learned that healing isn't about becoming less aware. It's about choosing people and places where I no longer have to live on high alert.
I'm still flawed. I still get things wrong.
I'm not better than anyone else.
I'm not less than anyone else.
I'm just me.
And, finally, that feels enough.

Why can’t we take all of the decades of evidence and address the roof cause of the negative social issues that affect our county?
💔
Could we take all the evidence, the facts, the research and actually address the cause of incarceration?
🤦
Can we do this at a government level.?
🤬
Why are we still just punishing people for being disabled, sick, dying, poor, traumatised or abused ?
🤬
We see other countries address economic planning with a lens of equality and they improve outcomes a cross all p***c sectors.
Thus reducing the strain on public resources and improving economy.
❤️
Consider this real life example…
a little girl living in an environment suffering abuse that is designed to destroy little girls. You know what I mean.
She goes to school but she is hungry, there is no food at home, she is tired, she never sleeps properly in fear of that danger that comes in the night. She hasn’t had a bath for over a week, doesn’t own a hair brush and her clothing is dirty and ragged, the other students bully her because she is an easy victim.
💔
How is she to learn? How is she to get an education? How will she ever get a decent job?
💔
That little girl shop lifts, she steals shoes from doorsteps and clothing from people’s washing lines.
She sneaks into the back of supermarket loading areas and steals food, she breaks into people’s garages and cars for food and clothing.
💔
She is breaking the law, how should she be punished ?
💔
Many adults know what is happening for her, some harm her, some gossip about it and others can see enough to guess what is going on?
🤦
If you knew or suspected what was happening what would you do?
📢
The Facts tell us that as you read this there are tens of thousands of little boys and girls living in situations like this and many people know.
And as communities and a country we are not doing enough to make it change 😳
So what can you do as just one person?

❤️ We do what we can, we step up
❤️ We donate, money, food or goods
❤️ We volunteer in our communities
❤️ We speak up when we see it
❤️ We refuse to keep secrets
❤️ We vote for it
❤️ We sign the petitions or create them
❤️ We make ending abuse and injustice more important than debates designed to divide us.

New Zealand and Scotland have a similar population size, but while our youth prison population hovers around 130 to 160, Scotland's is currently zero. It's an incredible feat given Glasgow was dubbed the murder capital of Europe by the WHO. It's all thanks to the country's Violence Reduction Unit, w...
