What a weekend 🌟
We had an awesome time at the Marlborough A&P Show last Saturday with our Six Strings pop-up - an epic day of performances from our Six Strings bands & friends! Huge thanks to all the bands who took part - the whole day was an absolute vibe 🤘

And we’re not done yet…
Tomorrow we’re back at the same spot for Lights over Marlborough ✨🌙

Between 6-7pm, you’ll get to see three of our amazing junior Six Strings bands hit the stage (as well as lots of other awesome bands later in the evening):

🔥Neon Horizon
🔥Traffic
🔥B’Hooper

These tamariki are absolute rock stars - come down, bring the whānau, and enjoy an incredible evening of music, food, and fireworks! 🎆

📷 PS - thanks Bandquest for the awesome images!

We’ve been a bit quiet on here…2025 has been an absolute whirlwind to say the least!

Farmers Markets, Rockquest, fundraisers, music workshops, Trinity College music exams and last week’s Six Strings Concert - today we were part of a special Young & Creative Band Project 💫

Next week we’re off to Nelson for Bandquest - yeeeooow! And we still have the A&P Show, Lights Over Marlborough, and our Summer Concert gigs ahead of us 🤸🏻‍♀️

We’ve also had some amazing new tutors join the Six Strings team - bringing even more energy and talent into the mix 🙌

We honestly live and breathe music every single day - and we do it all for our incredible students. Watching them thrive makes every late night and every extra hour worth it!

We definitely couldn’t do it without our amazing friends, whānau, and fellow teachers who back us all the way - much aroha 🫶

With only 5 sleeps to go, here’s 5 key details for all performers and concert attendees this weekend✨

Saturday 9th August 2.30pm at the Renwick Community Hall 🎸✨🥁🌈⚡️😎🎶🤘🏽

1. TICKETS 🎫 – tickets for the event are available here: https://www.eventfinda.co.nz/2025/six-strings-winter-concert-private-event/blenheim

2. FOOD & BEVERAGE 🍔🍷- A *cash only* Refreshments Bar and JJ’s Food Truck will be open right throughout the event - feel free to duck out quietly anytime for either of these. (This will help to ease any long queues). The food truck will take eftpos.

3. DOORS OPEN at 2.15pm – We need to have all performers there by 2.30pm. The concert will officially start at 2.45pm

4. BACK ENTRANCE – Please use the back door of the Renwick Community Hall to enter, the front doors will be closed. There is plenty of parking at the back of the hall and on-street.

5. PRACTICE 🎶 – parents, please encourage your tamariki to practice their piece as much as possible to help them feel confident! If they are feeling nervous, remind them that - it is all about giving it a go and that mistakes do happen but that’s ok, just carry on 😊 We want it to be a light-hearted and fun experience for them (many have never been on stage before).

See you all there! 🎸✨🥁🌈⚡️😎🎶

🥁 After-School Drum Lessons Now Available – Term 3 Spaces Open!

Starting Monday 4th August, we’re launching a new round of Beginner Level Drum Lessons for tamariki aged 6–11 years. Lessons will take place every Monday after school at the Whitney Street School hall during term time, in small group sessions of just 4 children.

Each session is 30 minutes long, with a fun, hands-on approach that builds rhythm, confidence, and musical skills from day one!

🗓️ Available lesson times by age group:

🥁 3.30pm – Ages 6–7
🥁 4.00pm – Ages 7–8
🥁 4.30pm – Ages 8–10
🥁 5.00pm – Ages 9–11

Fees: $15 per lesson (approx. $150 per term), invoiced at the start of each term.

Spaces are very limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so if one of these times works for your child, please get in touch as soon as possible!

⭐️ Meet Your Tutor – Chelle MacGibbon

Get ready for fun and engaging lessons led by the wonderful Chelle MacGibbon – a passionate musician, experienced teacher, and mum of three.

Formerly the Deputy Principal at Renwick School, Chelle brings a warm, inclusive, and patient teaching style that connects beautifully with tamariki of all ages.

She has plenty of experience behind the drum kit – performing regularly with her local band Nobody Knows – and is currently continuing her own drumming journey through Trinity College London.

Chelle’s kind, encouraging approach creates a space where tamariki feel confident to explore, express themselves, and build strong foundations in music – while having heaps of fun along the way!
