Performing regularly was one of the most valuable parts of my own musical education. Looking back, those experiences didn't just improve my playing and give me something to work towards - they also built my confidence, communication skills, and joy in sharing music with others.

That's why performances are now woven into our programme, rather than just being an optional add-on. In 2026, students will take part in a Rest Home Concert once per term during their regular Lab time. These concerts will be a low-pressure, meaningful opportunity to bring joy to others while developing stage confidence.

We'll also hold Performance Workshops within the studio to help students prepare, support one another, and grow together. And of course, our Annual Recital on one of Marlborough's finest pianos remains a highlight, where students' families and friends can celebrate the progress that they've made throughout the year.

These experiences will help shape confident, generous musicians who can share their musical gift with others.

Musicianship Labs - our weekly, 1-hour group sessions - are one of the most exciting new additions to our 2026 programme!

Our Musicianship Labs bring students together each week to explore what it truly means to be a musician. These group sessions are interactive, creative, and full of variety: covering rhythm, aural skills, theory, music history, performance practice, composition, and more.

Learning alongside peers builds confidence, accountability, and motivation, and it's a huge part of what helps students thrive. These sessions are where students connect the dots between the notes on the page and what they hear and feel in music.

Private lessons - the first element of our programme at Kimberly's Piano Room - are a place where every student feels valued, encouraged, and equipped. Because other aspects of musicianship can be focused on during Musicianship Labs, our private lessons can hone in on what matters most to each student individually. In our private lessons, we:

1. Build a strong technical foundation for comfort, control, and long-term ease of playing.

2. Choose music that genuinely resonates with each student, whether that's classical, jazz, pop, or something in between.

3. Teach how to practice, not just what to practice, so home practice becomes productive, creative, and fun.

Our personalised, thoughtful teaching equips students with skills they can apply not just to their music, but to anything they spend their time on, both now and throughout their lives.

At Kimberly's Piano Room, we believe music lessons should be more than just turning up once a week, playing through a few pieces, being told to practice more, and going home with a new assignment.

Our goal is to create musicians who enjoy music, understand music, and share music. That's why our programme now combines three essential elements:

1. Private Lessons - Individual coaching focused on technical ease, expressive playing, and practice skills that help students make real progress.

2. Musicianship Labs - Weekly group sessions where students explore theory, rhythm, listening, composition, history, performance, and more through creative, hands-on learning.

3. Regular Performances - Built right into our schedule, these opportunities help students grow in confidence, work towards regular goals, and give back to the community through music

Our new programme is a complete, holistic approach that develops the whole musician, not just their fingers. Stay tuned for extra info on each aspect of our programme, or head over to our website to find out more!

After over a decade with a logo that never felt quite right, I'm thrilled to finally share the new look for Kimberly's Piano Room, and even more thrilled about what it represents!

This exciting rebrand reflects the way our studio has grown and matured over the past 12 years, and the way I've come to see what truly matters in music education. Over the past few months, I've been reimagining what the ideal piano programme could look like. The result is our brand new 2026 programme: a new and improved structure that will give students the time, tools, and environment to become confident and well-rounded musicians, not just piano players.

There's heaps to share about what's changing, and I can't wait to show it all to you!

After many enquiries about options for younger kids, we've decided to start a group lesson this term for younger students eager to get into music.

These group lessons will be run by Sophie, and will be focused on music appreciation, basic music knowledge, and having fun at the piano 😁
