Silk Tree Native to West Asia this is a broadly spreading tree. In January dark pink flowers form on top of the leaves. Attractive small compound leaves which tidily disintegrate after falling. Drought and heat tolerant. Grows to around 4-6m Deciduous

This hardy, deciduous tree, commonly called the Maidenhair Tree, is one of Earth’s ancient trees. The green leaves are shaped like sections of the maidenhair fern and in autumn colour bright gold. A delight to grow but do give it a bit of space to fully develop Grows to around 7m in cultivation

Loropetalum chinensis Plum Delight $10.50 in 1.2 litre pot
Fringe Flower. This lovely evergreen shrub has bright magenta ‘tassels’ in spring and autumn. Nice burgundy coloured foliage sets off the flowers beautifully. Grows to around 1m high and 1.5m wide. Lovely mass planted, in pots and informal hedging as well as general all round spreading shrub. Grow in sun to part shade

We are open Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd from 10am to 4pm
Today's gorgeous plant is:
Coleonema pulchellum Sunset Gold
$10.50 each in 1.2 litre pot
Breath of Heaven Well named, this spreading evergreen shrub is very desirable. It has soft, feathery needle-like foliage in bright chartreuse-gold with a delicious fragrance. Little white to pale pink flowers in spring and into summer. Stunning en masse or as a specimen, it also works as a low hedge. Light trimming enhances it’s compact form. Grows to around 70cm x 1m. Hardy and tolerant of some drought once established, wind and coastal conditions where a little shelter will help. Sun to part shade
I have this growing down at our crib at Kaka Point and it is coping very well with the sea winds. One of my favourite shrubs.

Good morning gardeners. Open today 10am to 4pm

Today's lovely is Hydrangea quercifolia Snowflake - available in two grades 3.5 litre pot for $13.50 and 1 litre pot for $9.50

Outstanding oak-leafed hydrangea with large, bold and attractive leaves which colour red in the autumn. Double white flowers in summer aging to rosy pink. Grows to about 1-1.5m. Happiest in shade but avoid very wet soil. Not one for the humid part of the country. If pruning is needed, do it straight after flowering as this type of hydrangea flowers on old wood.
This is a special hydrangea - the flowers are stunning but the leaves are very attractive and are a special attraction during autumn and winter with the rich red-burgundy colour. The leaves are held on the shrub into the spring. I know of one clever gardener who has lined a wide walkway in these and I'm hoping for a photo when established. Can you imagine it? Simply stunning!

Just wanting to thank our customers for their understanding and support as we deal with things after the horrendous wind event on Thursday 23rd and without power or computer - my cell phone just didn't hack it! The Powernet team had restored power to our Waitepeka area by Friday morning - so grateful. They have so much more to do in Otago and Southland so we're feeling very fortunate now.

Thanks also to a near neighbour who was able to loan us a small generator so I didn't have to carry on watering the nursery by buckets and watering can. After day 7 that was getting a bit desperate.

Haven't been out to the daff paddock but there will still be a few hanging on. The late poeticus/pheasant's eye types may have picked themselves up for a day or two of flowering yet. The daffs are ridiculously resilient. They may not look flash but they can pick themselves up and carry on. A good life lesson :)
