Balclutha Kindergarten proudly supported Daffodil Day for the Cancer Society with a yellow dress-up day. It was wonderful to see so many of our tamariki and kaiako dressed in bright yellow in support of this important cause.

At Balclutha Kindergarten we value kaitiakitanga and whanaungatanga, caring for people, places and things and building meaningful connections with our wider community.

🌟 Holiday Learning Highlights at Balclutha Kindergarten 🌟
We've had a wonderful holiday period filled with exploration, connection, and caring for our world.
A special highlight was Kyson sharing his family's chickens with us. He was so proud to show them to his friends and kaiako, strengthening the connection between home and kindergarten while sharing his knowledge and experiences.
We also enjoyed exploring our local park, learning about our community, taking on new challenges, and building confidence through adventure and discovery.
Our tamariki have continued to show kindness by caring for their friends, themselves, and our environment. They have been busy feeding our fish, frogs, and mealworms, learning about life cycles and how living things depend on one another. We have also been recycling leftover kai for the local manu, helping children develop an understanding of sustainability and kaitiakitanga.
Stories, conversations, and special moments with kaiako have fostered a love of learning, curiosity, and communication, beautifully reflecting the strands of Te Whāriki—Belonging, Wellbeing, Contribution, Communication, and Exploration.
We also celebrated a very special milestone, graduating and farewelling Braxton as he takes the next step in his learning journey at Balclutha Primary School. We are so proud of the confident, capable learner he has become and wish him all the very best for this exciting new chapter.
We are so proud of our tamariki and the care, confidence, and curiosity they show every day. 💚

🌟 A Huge Thank You to the Alexander McMillan Trust 🌟
Balclutha Kindergarten would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Alexander McMillan Trust for their generous grant, which enabled us to purchase new tables for our learning environment.
These tables provide a welcoming and practical space for our tamariki to learn, create, explore, and connect with one another each day. The upgraded furniture has made a real difference to the comfort and functionality of our indoor learning areas.
We are incredibly grateful for the Trust's support of early childhood education and for investing in resources that benefit our children and community.
Thank you, Alexander McMillan Trust, for helping us create an even better learning environment for our tamariki. 💙

🌧️ Kia ora e te whānau 🌧️

We have a Red Heavy Rain Warning currently in place until 9am tomorrow morning.
Clutha District Council has asked everyone to restrict travel to essential journeys only due to surface flooding and the potential for slips.
To protect the safety and wellbeing of our tamariki, whānau and kaiako, Balclutha kindergarten will be closed tomorrow.
Kia haumaru te noho, e te whānau.
Stay safe and take care of one another. 🌧️💚

On Tuesday, 30th June, we celebrated Matariki at Kindergarten. It was wonderful to see so many families attend, including extended whanau. Matariki is a special time to come together, reflect, and celebrate. A special thank you to our fundraising team for all the hard work that went into organising the disco, to Nicole Cunningham for the beautiful decorations and to Rachel Bannerman for her engaging story time. We were also fortunate to have Christie Burrows, open our celebration with a karakia. Thankyou to everyone who joined us and made the evening so memorable. It was a truly wonderful celebration and the tamariki enjoyed preforming for you all. Here are some highlights from the evening!!

🌭 Come and support Balclutha Kindergarten this Saturday! 🌭
We’re firing up the BBQ and would love your support at our sausage sizzle outside The Warehouse!
Every sausage you buy is helping us raise funds for a very special project, a wharenui/playhouse for our tamariki. This space will become a place where children can gather, imagine, learn, connect, and celebrate together through play and culture.
Whether you’re out doing the shopping, grabbing a coffee, or just passing by, we’d love to see you. Bring your whānau, enjoy a delicious sausage, and help make this dream a reality for our children.
📍 Outside The Warehouse, Balclutha📅 Saturday 27 June⏰ From 10am until 1pm
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us already, especially those who have donated, volunteered, and purchased raffle tickets. Your generosity means the world to our kindergarten community.
Ngā mihi nui – we’ll see you there! ❤️

Over the past few weeks we have been doing activities around Anzac Day and why we commemorate it. The tamariki have enjoyed their learning through mahi toi / creative art, creating thoughtful artworks inspired by remembrance and reflection, making poppies and wreath to be displayed at the Balclutha cenataph. We have also enjoyed working together to bake Anzac biscuits, talking about traditions from the past and how food can help us remember important events in our history.
These experiences support tamariki to learn through doing, sharing whakaaro, working collaboratively, and building connections to events that still shape our lives today. We are proud of the respect, curiosity, and care our tamariki showed throughout these experiences.
We would love to see photos of your experiences commemorating Anzac day.
Lest we forget – Kia maumahara mātou. 🌺
