Our tamariki in Nga Pakiaka were excited to explore the Slippery Fish activity, using magnetic fishing rods to catch sea creatures. Through this playful experience, they developed hand-eye coordination, concentration, and perseverance while enjoying the challenge of "catching" their fish.

Collaboration in action! Our tamariki worked together to collect and stack recycled containers, supporting one another as they built higher and higher—then enjoyed the excitement as the tower came tumbling down! This experience supports teamwork, problem-solving, and social competence, linking to the aspirations of Te Whāriki around belonging and contribution.

Our little explorers experienced Mother Nature through sensory Gaia Activities. Using nature's art supplies, they colored with tree bark, crafted art with mud paint, and made noodles from grass and flowers. They crushed rock salt with petals and used spinach for vibrant green watercolor. Mixing lemon juice with cornstarch provided a sensory play that was citrus-scented. These eco-friendly adventures taught our children to love and appreciate the earth.

In the Ngā Pakiaka room, as we focus on strengthening te reo, kaiako Deepika has brought in two new books: Tohora Nui and There’s a Tuatara in My Gumboots. These stories help with language development, early literacy, cultural connection, and imagination while also boosting confidence with te reo Māori through shared reading and discussions. 📚 ✨

Our senses became one with nature as we experienced the earth—tasting the sharp flavor of salt, feeling its gritty texture, and hearing the gentle rhythm of crystals falling into our bowls. With small wooden sticks and cutting boards, little hands carefully crushed the wild salt, each soft crunch enhancing their focus and motor skills. Amidst this harmonious mix of flowers and salt, our children explored the world through touch, creating a joyful and profound connection to Mother Earth.

Our tamariki had fun with moon sand during pretend kitchen play. They delighted in scooping, transferring, and opening and closing containers, which helped them develop fine motor skills and enhance their problem-solving abilities.

Our tamariki had a great day learning and exploring together. They were thrilled to find a giant cardboard box set up outdoors. Each child picked a paintbrush and chose their favorite colors. It was wonderful to see them confidently expressing their creativity with various colors. The activity encouraged imagination, collaboration, and creative self-expression, while enhancing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
