We really appreciate receiving this thoughtful review from one of our Pistachio’s families 💛

Hearing that a student feels confident and supported, especially when they come from a non-Mandarin background, means so much to us.

It reflects what we truly care about: creating a space where students learn with fun and encouragement in their learning journey.

At Pistachio, learning Mandarin is about building connections through the language, the culture, and the people around us. Seeing students grow in confidence and enjoy the journey is what makes it all worthwhile🗣️✨

Sometimes the most memorable moments in class come from the students themselves 💛

Recently, during class, some of our students asked,
“Where is Lao Ma today?” They were referring to Yatchun Wong!

After learning that “lǎo” means old and “mā” means mum, the students know Yatchun is older than their mums, and started calling her “lǎo mā” in class.

For them, it’s more than just a word. Yatchun feels like a “mum” in the classroom — someone who guides, supports, and makes them feel comfortable as they learn.

Moments like this show how students connect language to real experiences and relationships, making learning something they can remember and use.

At Pistachio, it’s not just about learning words, but about building connections that stay with them.

Dòng wù (Animals) in Mandarin! 🐶🐱🐰🐟

At Pistachio, students learn to talk about animals they see in everyday life, from gǒu (dog) and māo (cat) to tù zi (rabbit) and yú (fish). By connecting these words to familiar animals, learning becomes natural, fun, and easy to remember.

Through interactive activities, students build confidence in using Mandarin to describe the world around them and create connections through the language.

Which animal is your favourite? 🐾

🧠 Did you know?

Around 1 in 4 New Zealand exports go to China (roughly 20-25%) - making it our largest export market 🌏✨

That means many businesses here regularly interact with Chinese partners, suppliers, and customers.

Even simple Mandarin like nǐ hǎo (hello), xiè xiè (thank you) and can help build stronger connections and trust.

At Pistachio, we help students use Mandarin in real-life situations because language is about connection.

At Pistachio, learning Mandarin is not just about repeating; it’s about building connections.

Instead of simply following the teacher, we guide students to start from sounds they already know and turn them into real words they can use.

See the learning in action with our tutor, Yui, and student Ian.

As they build from what they already understand, they begin to apply it naturally in class. This helps reinforce their learning and gives them a real sense of achievement, all while having fun ✨

We’ve even had students saying
“The teacher is so smart!” when they realised how the method works.

That’s when we know the learning is truly connecting 💛
