It has been a nice few months of learning, in both places that you would expect and others less obvious.
I attended the Feel SOMA Immersion a few months back and as always the man Ian O'Dwyer put on a great learning environment full of practical takeaways (and a load of fun to go with it).
This weekend past was the StrongFirst KB101 and KB201 courses, of which I had the pleasure of assisting Piers Kwan in teaching. I have been using/teaching kettlebells for a while now and Piers rolled out a host of new drills that really help the teaching process of some core kettlebell movements.
Finally I have been coaching my daughters Rip Rugby (like OzTag) side. I think that in the gym space we can lose sight of real life movement patterns because we get siloed into viewing things through the constrained movement lens that is squat, hinge, push, pull etc without the dynamic nature of sport/work. I am very aware that our fundamental movement patterns make up the complex ones but cueing and setting up drills to change dynamic, complex movements to a group of competitive 10-12yr olds has really freshened up my skills.

Youth sport. Full of win at all costs, ego driven coaching. Even down to the Junior levels.
How about the goal of junior coaches is to create a positive and fun learning environment so that more kids play the following year regardless of whether they made the 'academy side' as a 9 year old.
It's impossible to judge how our kids will develop, but I do know that if they play again next year they will always get better. πͺπ
Rant over.
Yes coach if you ever thought about cutting the big, chubby( can we still say chubby?) kid, think again.
Thanks to for the pic.

Afternoon Legends!
We have a couple of cool international courses/workshops happening in Auckland during July.
βΉοΈ Saturday 22nd July - ORIGINAL STRENGTH - PRESSING RESET.
πIt was run back in 2019 and the attendees (a variety of Personal Trainers, Exercise Physiologists, and Physiotherapists) all came away from it with some of the most practical and efficient tools to help their clients and patients (and themselves) move and feel better. Original Strength fits seamlessly into other movement systems and philosophies and has wide ranging application from neurological disorders through to elite athletes and everyone in between.
βΉοΈ Sunday 23rd July - KETTLEBELL 101 - SIMPLE & SINISTER ... and ... KETTLEBELL 201 - RITE OF PASSAGE.
π If you have spent anytime in the kettlebell world you will have come across the name Pavel Tsatsouline. He co-founded RKC and now the founder and CEO of StrongFirst. His seminal book Simple and Sinister was published back in 2013 and is still one of the most iconic kettlebell books to date, and he has published another dozen or so on a wide variety of training from bodyweight, barbell and kettlebells. Kettlebell 101 follows the Simple and Sinister exercise instruction and programming while Kettlebell 201 follows the iconic Rite of Passage publication. If kettlebells are something that you use, come and learn from the best school around.

If you've read through my posts over the years you will know how passionate I am around youth sport/youth athletic development.
πThis is so important to understand π
"During childhood, an athlete draws confidence from the significant adults in their lives. What a coach says or doesnβt say about their performance, or how a parent shows love and encouragement, has a major impact on self-belief. During adolescence, an athlete's peers become a much more important reference for their abilities." - Dr Craig Harrison

Have a great weekend everyone.
