Yesterday, as part of Samoan Language Week, a group of our beautiful students visited New Shoots Children's Centre in Westgate to share a beautiful Siva Samoa. They also taught them a popular Samoan pese (song).
The children were absolutely adorable and so eager to join in and blessed us with their own item! It was heartwarming to see the students our girls living out our Dominican values, sharing their culture with such joy, service and pride. Thank you to New Shoots for inviting us. It is always special to see intergenerational connections being made through language and tradition. πŸ‡ΌπŸ‡ΈπŸ€

Today's Western Zones football tournament was a phenomenal showcase for our exceptionally energetic, robust, and skilled Year 7&8 team, who truly played their hearts out. Through outstanding performance in our pool games, we achieved a commendable 8th place standing. Heartfelt thanks goes to Coach Katie Searle for her boundless energy and unwavering encouragement throughout the day. Thank you also goes to our parent helpers today, in getting us to the venue in time, helping set us up for the day and cheering us on throughout. We truly appreciate your support.

Our Young Enterprise Scheme students have been hard at work turning their ideas into reality! πŸ’‘βœ¨

Recently, 7 YES teams pitched their business ideas to a panel of judges as part of the second of four challenges in the programme. The creativity, innovation, and confidence shown by our students was incredible to see, and we are so proud of the effort they have put into developing their businesses.

Keep an eye out, as we introduce each business and share more about their exciting ideas! πŸ‘

We were so blessed to have Brother Joy from Holy Cross to spend time with our girls making rosaries as part of their Dominican service. It was a special opportunity for our students to grow in faith, service, and community together. Thank you, Br Joy, for sharing your time, guidance, and kindness with our girls πŸ’šπŸ€πŸ–€

Two teams represented St Dominic's at the Auckland Literacy Association's LitEx competition on Monday afternoon. This is an academic competition that tests students knowledge of literacy in the same format of Mathex, with teams of four collaborating to solve challenging questions about books, authors, genres and literary devices, with the added pressure of one team member running answers up to the team of markers to find out if they could progress to the next question.

While the competition was intense and fast-paced, both our teams showed incredible focus and resilience, with Year 9 team of Oshean Augustin, Amanat Chauhan, Emily Knight and Lauretta Silver ultimately finishing with in a very respectable fourth place on 86 points, just one point behind the third placed team. Year 10 team Lilian Hao, Gunreet Kaur, Annabelle Nicholson and Audrey Widdup also performed with skill and determination, finishing on 81 points.

This was the first time St Dominic's has entered this event, and we will definitely take what we have learnt from this experience and come back even stronger next year. Congratulations to all the students who performed so well under pressure, we are proud of you all. πŸ₯³πŸ‘
