Just graduated from high school, selected for New Zealand’s top portrait competition.
Congratulations 🎉 to Judy! Her portrait has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Adam Portraiture Award—one of the most prestigious painting competitions in New Zealand.
Organized by the New Zealand Portrait Gallery and held biennially, this is one of the country’s most important portrait awards. Finalists are exhibited in the official show, and the selection process is highly rigorous. In previous years, most finalists have been professional artists or those with formal art school backgrounds.
In other words: this is a field that high school students almost never break into.
But she did.
What makes this piece truly powerful isn’t just its likeness, but its sense of reality.
The figure is compressed into a dark background, with the red coat forming a strong visual focal point.
Every detail serves a single idea—the traces of time.
